Skyrim crash to desktop

I just installed Skyrim and it keeps crashing to desktop after the openning credits when it says Skyrim. My computer can more than handle this game so I'm not sure where the issue is. No mods installed, they game is a new install on my PC, level 1.

I also tried revaildating. Gives no error message, just crashes to the desktop.

Run the check to verify your install. To do this go to the Library in THIS window then find skyrim. RIGHT click on the game then properties. Then go to the local files tab and there will be a button that will verify the integrity of local file. This is 1 place to start. It might find a problem with the install. Usually a CTD is a problem with the files.

I have tried revaildating and reinstalling. The game crashes just after the open creidits where it says Skyrim. No error messages

Try enabling Vsync, update GPU drivers, try running in windowed mode.

As for Windows 8, there could be some compatibility issues. Perhaps others with Win8 can chime in.

I have gotten it to run on the lowest settings but this shouldn't be the case. I have more than enough system to run this game. I'll have to play with it and see what I can do. I couldn't find Vsync in the game. GPU drivers are up to date. I will try windowed mode

vsync can be found in the nvidia control panel. Goto Manage 3D programs/settings, and look for TESV settings. I would recommend using "Adaptive Vsync" as it will cap your fps at 60, but if your fps drops below 60, it will automatically turn off vsync until it reaches the 60 fps threshold again.

Well it runs for a few mins and than ramdomly crashes now. It's getting better. I might have to just play it on low settings.

Nothing seems to get helping. I don't want to play on the lowest settings. The same part is I would rather toss the game having never played it than keep fighting it and playing on low rez. :P Thanks for the help btw.

Non, clean install twice now. I was going to DL the new HD textures but waited since I can't get it to run on anything but low rez. Tried validating and a bunch of other video settings. Only runs in low rez at the moment.

I have this same problem, No mod's, DLC's: All except for Dragonborn,
I have reinstalled it and validated it 3 time's now... even deleted all file's
Would installing it from the CD work?

Just an observation, I've had considerable trouble with crashes which seemed to begin with the latest Skyrim update 1.9, I believe. But I noticed this morning after I deleted the Skyrim file in My Games on my computer like someone online suggested that instead of completely crashing my computer to a black screen, now it is "only" crashing to destop. I noticed that now I CTD when Steam puts up a new downloaded game advertisement while I am playing the game. Has anyone else noticed this at all? Maybe it's just me but Steam needs to check for those kinds of possibilities.

Mine is random but I should have more than enough system to run this game on ultra. I am running it on low rez and it has yet to crash. Really sucks though becuase I buy games to play at full rez, not low. I'm not sure it's only one thing thats keeping us from playing and it's something thats not rendering right or not being utlized the right way. We CTD because of it. This is why you get no error, just a video rendering stop and your on the desktop. I'm going to look into this 4gb MOD I've seen for memory and see it that helps.

I have the same problem on a Core i5 750 + NVidia 660. The only thing I've found so far is to run the TESV.exe process with affinity set to only 2 processors. Sucks because there's no good automated way that I can find to set the affinity each time. With a Steam install, it looks like Steam has to have the limited affinity in order for it to launch Skyrim that way. But have have never CTD'ed with only 2 cores running.
