A bow is good, but finding arrows can be hard sometimes

It's not hard at all- the basic iron/steel arrows can always be looted from Imperial Soldiers Bandits, or bought from a vendor, etc.

illusion, archery, sneak, one handed, light armour, with illusion you don't need to put any points into it just buy the spell muffle and keep spamming it to gain lvls, you can get the skill up to 70 just with that spell then buy invisibility and paralize, i like alteration also i find its quite easy to lvl

Poison your weapons. There's mods that extend the amount of time poison stays on your weapon if it gets too tedious.

Man that vid is awesome, you made me want to play an assassin.
As to race..hmm dark elf I guess, altough his racial kinda sucks compared to others.

Pull arrows out of targets of guards doing archery practise @ Dragonsreach/Solitude. Reverse pickpocket them with arrows of your choice i.e. ebony, daedric, etc.

But to answer the OP, level archery and sneak, sneak give you bonuses like Assasin's Blade (15x damage with a dagger, 30x if you have DB armour). For archery the Zoom function and Slow Time perks are a must. Sneak also has 3 X damage perk for Archery, which is a lifesaver at times.

Daggers are silent to use in sneak, bows will alert others nearby as will use of spells, etc unless you have Silent Casting perk.

The arrow distraction shot trick is a classic.

I have a question about sneak attacks/backstabs. First, do you have to hit them in the back? Second, how doable is this with a follower like Lydia?

I usually make one of those half man/mer race since of magic resist. Sometimes your dagger hit doesnt instant kill said mage so your forced to kill him being aware your there. So I usually go vampire and learn illusion spells like charm and invisible cause you cant hide when the sun is out. Underwater breathing you can just enchant that on your head armor. If I use range weapon I go grab enchanced dwarf crossbow the best weapon for any rogue but you got to raid dwarf dungeons for items to make bolts.

How do you move fast like that when you're in sneak mode?

Nothing against argonians, if that's the race you like to play. But having enough waterbreathing potions in your inventory will suffice, since you won't use them too often. Also, as you keep playing, you can enchant jewelry to give the wearer permanent waterbreathing.

As for the build, its completely up to you Spaceman. For my Bosmer assassin, I leveled
-sneak
-1 handed
-light armour
-alchemy (for poisons)
-lockpicking
-smithing

I found out recently that dagger is sort of broken for one-handed perks so you need mods to fix that if you want to use dagger for melee and not just backstabbing.

This is wrong, it used to count for the first perk in 1h, but they fixed it in Dawnguard
Ah ok. The threads I realized are a year old so I'm glad to hear they fixed it. I'd still like a mod that adds perks for dagger combat though (like swords axes and maces have)
