Crashes and glitches
Now I remember why I stopped playing Skyrim. It keeps crashing on me without any apparant reason. No notification about the game stopping to work. Nothing. Suddenly I'm just back at my desktop. There seems to be no connection either. Sometimes it crashes upon fast-travel. Sometimes it crashes upon loading a save. Sometimes it crashes when my character is standing still for too long... It just randomly happens. And not twice at the same place. If the game crashes while I'm trying to fast-travel to a place and then start the game up again and try to do it again it works fine. I had the Unofficial mods, but they're no longer working. Aside from that I have no mods whatsoever. So it can't be due to that.

Then there are the graphic glitches. Sometimes when the game has loaded some details are purple. Sometimes a whole forest is purple. Sometimes the guards wear purple dresses instead or armour or sometimes the gauntlets and shiled are purple while the rest is normal. The latest glitch was Shadowmere being entirely purple. Any idea how to fix this? I've tried to lower the graphics from High to Medium but it made no difference.

Do you have the newest (28 October 2013) Unofficial Skyrim Patches (now on Nexus)? There are a couple pinned threads that have all the details.

No, but it used to crash even before. I started playing again yesterday and before that I hadn't played since June. Back in June I had all the unofficial patches, but the game behaved the same way back then. I don't think getting a patch will fix this.
I don't know about the graphics glitches, but verifying the game cache should fix the CTDs
The patches may actually help with your graphics problems. I noticed improved graphics with the latest patches.

I've also been getting frequent CTDs, but sporadically. Some days I can go hours without a CTD, other days I'll get CTDs every few minutes even in game situations and locations that don't usually crash. I believe Steam has something to do with the frequent CTDs, but I have no way of testing that to see.

The most frequent CTDs I get are accompanied by a window that says it's in Microsoft C++, Error R6025, ‘pure virtual function call’. I have no idea what code is generating it, much less what the problem is.

My only mods are the 5 Unofficial Patches and Essential Lydia.

It keeps saying that one file failed to validate and will be reaquired. But I've tried to validate 3 times now and with always the same result. So... It doesn't reaquire the file?

I never get any window and code when my game CTD. It's just nothing. The game stops and there's nothing. But I could try with the patches. Where do I get them? Links, please :)
I sometimes get ‘simple’ CTDs as well. I still think that's a Steam problem. The game itself has bugs and some other problems, but after Steam accidentally released the free Dawnguard DLC a couple months ago, I began getting a lot more CTDs and other problems.

There are two pinned threads that deal with Skyrim problems and have all the information there. One is about general Skyrim problems and the other, The Unnoficial Patches - Where do I get them now? is specifically about the Unofficial Patches. I believe it has all the information you need.

I got the patches from AFK (Nexus demanded payed subscription so I refused). Updated them into the correct folder and now I can't even play. I get to the first screen and then I click continue. The loading screen shows up and then the game CTDs without any notice.
Nexus is actually a free service, and doesn't demand that you pay for a subscription. (I did pay, although that was an afterthought, because it is a useful service and I wanted to support it.) You simply need to click through the initial pages that encourage you to pay, download Nexus Mod Manager, and download from there, all for free.

The pay option grants you a few privileges and perhaps faster downloads, but paying is not necessary.

I see. Well, anyway. The patches didn't help. Couldn't load the game from continue button or via the load save button. Removing the patches completely from the data folder didn't help either. Still crashes. I can't even do any gameplay now :/
Sorry you're having problems. I wish I could be more help.

Others may have better ideas, but you may need to copy your save files to a directory a safe distance from your Skyrim files, then uninstall and the Unofficial Patches, and reinstall Skyrim. Then use Nexus Mod Manager to install the Unofficial Patches.

I decided to reinstall Skyrim with my saves intact. I'll try to work it without mods, see how it works. Then try again with the patches.

Alembrik has pretty much covered everything that I would do, but I would also like to add that you should run BOSS [skyrim.nexusmods.com] to see if there's any conflicts mod-mod conflcts or mod-game conflicts (such as using just the Unofficial Patches).
Now I'm seriously worried. I reinstalled Skyrim with my saves intact. Still crashes. I installed the NMM and all the patches and put them in the right order. The game still crashes, but now I have no sound. No sound whatsoever. It's not just no sound in the game, but my computer can't make sounds anymore :( Great, this just got me into an even bigger mess. Lovely.
Deactivated the patches, uninstalled NMM and BOSS and restarted the computer got the sound working again. Now I'm ready to give up.
My advice would be, if you want to play Skyrim. To re-install Skyrim. but follow a tutorial of how to do so, still through steam, and I know that the purple ♥♥♥♥ is because everything that is purple has no texture, so you must of change the files somehow, or something else did, perhaps.
