Essential Lydia
I`m wanting to make lydia essential but without any luck, ive tryed a couple of mods on steam and nexus but to no avail, Anyone got any idears on how to achieve this.

Is anyone else having this problem ??im using the unofficial skyrim patches if that helps.

Ultimate Follower Overhaul is a one way to do it. Jus select "You are important" from discussion between you and your follower, to make her essential. To make her killble again, select "Everyone dies."

Other follower mods like Amazing Follower Tweaks can do this as well, but I personally like UFO.

I'm not sure how UFO deals with this, but bear in mind that Amazing Follower Tweaks (which I like very much) only makes followers essential while they are following you. If you dismiss them and they head home alone, there's a chance they will die en route (I once found a follower dead about 50 feet away from my character's home, several weeks after I dismissed them, assuming they could handle themselves. There was a mudcrab nearby...)

Have you tried this: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/48478/? it is no follower tweak however it makes housecarls essential.

Instead of a mod, I simply used a console command.
~ setessential (ID) 1 ~
Problem solved.

Once I looked up the actual character ID on the wikia, the command worked.
The character ID that shows up when you click on the character in the command mode is different for some odd reason.

I have had problems dismissing followers using UFO since Hearthfire.

Yes it is a problem with UFO but I assign them to vilja and leave her at home they all stay with her, when I want someone just reassign her/he and away you go.

What would the ID be for setting my horse to essential? Spending 1,000 gold on a horse that dies like its made of paper is rather annoying.

One thing you have to watch out for is if a NPC is essential, you can still kill them with ftiendly fire, ie, you are the one killing them.

Use Convenient Horses.

Thats Protected, not Essential.
