Unable to travel

I am in the Dragonborn DLC and need to travel back to Falkreath to complete a quest. However, when I talk with the boatman and pay my fare it goes into the fade-out transition period and just a few seconds later CTD. How can I fix this? Is this a bug in the bug in the Dragonborn DLC? If I use the console to travel to Falkreath, will this stop the Dragonborn quest line(s)?

when on the island all you do is open your map and move your cursor west/to the left side of the map until you see an arrow pointing to Skyrim-click on it, you will end up on deck of the boat in Windhelm, from there open your map again and fast-travel to Falkreath

I just tried that and the same exact thing happens. As soon as the fade-screen starts to change CTD just like when I asked the boatman for passage.

Using the console shouldn't break the Questline unless you use it to jump into a area that you are not supposed to be in. Does the game crash when loading any other cells.

Suggestions that I can think of are
1. Turn off auto save then try travelling back.
2. Check if there are Dirty Edits in any mods that you are using.
3. Look up fixes for Crashes when changing Cell
