Maps Updated ?

Hi, ok when your in whiterun's yarl area, n running around,inside , the map on his table u can click various flags and it says map updated, and it does with various maps on table your spot in your travels, and even the map table in your whiterun home, if using the housing mod my question is or questions, just which map is being updated, the large world map, or is it updating the table maps when u go to any other and click all the little flags ??... thx in advance
