Bad Lag on un modded skyrim
I've been getting random lag or stuttering in the game when i'm outside in the open world on here. I've got everything set to max, as that's what was recommended. Computer specs are AMD FX-6350, 8GB Ram, GTX 760 SC. I can run much newer games on max with no problems, but for some reason skyrim is constantly stuttering. It seems like every time the background loads something new, it stutters and drops the frame rate. When the frame rate does drop, it's only to low 50's, but the whole screen still stutters. Any settings that I should change? I've messed with the V-Sync, but that doesn't seem to affect it.

I had a reasonably good laptop that could play games but recently it struggled even with Fallout 3, i was confused until i released that it was LOADED with viruses and spyware (1100 viruses to be exact) so that was removed with malware bytes. So maybe something is jumping on your memory and computer power?? I really don't know, that what fixed my Laptop and skyrim.

since you have a nvidia gpu set vsync in nvidia cp to adaptive , if you use nvinspector set the frame limit to 58 rather than 60 , and if your psu is less than 500watts you can get poor performance

Much beter explanation than me, well done.

Well not entirely true a crap 700W PSU gives more problems then a renowned gold 80+ 450W PSU Its not only the max Watt output, but maintaining that output
I tried changing vsync to adaptive, but that didn't help anything. Power supply is 600 watt corsair Bronze 80 +. Don't think it's power supply or virus, I don't have any other problems on any other game. I'm going to download malwarebytes just to be sure though. Not sure what nvinspector is?
GPU and CPU temps also stay low, so it's not a matter of overheating.
Do you have background programs running ? For instance an AV scanner that is doing his job to good? Or video capturing software or so? Maybe a weird thing if it's on a normal hdd (not ssd) did you defragment it that helps a lot.

What speedfreak said sounds like the problem to me also....had that happen. Could even be steam doing it.
check and see if you have the autoupdate on for steam

could be a bad driver , the 337.61 works real good , i would get stuttering, hitching with last 2 or 3 drivers , could be a mod or enb even a faulty audio driver
so malwarebytes found 2 things, but it quarrantined and restarted, still stuttering. It's like the game actually freezes for a half second. My nvidia drivers are up to date, but i'll try reinstalling them. The best way to describe it is that it seems like the cpu can't handle the game. every time somnething loads in the background, the screen pauses for a moment. CPU and GPU usage never seems maxed out though.
try to defragment your hard drive it could be that.
I'll try defragmenting the drive tonight and see if it helps. I just switched from ultra to high settings, and it's seemed to stop. Still seems odd that the game can't run on ultra with this gpu/cpu.

You've never had any mods installed? If so (and you've uninstalled them) it could be save bloat.

Is this happening with an old save or when you start a new game. The only time this problem happened to me (random half second freezes) was save bloat.
Never had any mods installed (just started a new game about a week ago. I did have like 10 save files, but I've deleted them all down to 2 saves. I just killed the first dragon and am en-route to the graybeards. I'm so slow at these games, I'm hoping to avoid having to start over again. If I delete the game, and reinstall it, will steam save my progress?
