Good enough for a teen?
Im a teen, and im wondering if this game is good enough for me. It cant be 1. too violent (alot of blood, guts, and lims falling off) 2. so much strong language (b*tch and cr*p and sh*t and d*nm is good for me. Not f*ck) 3. too sexy. (non art nudity and sex) 4. over use of drugs. (its fine if it has a little drugs. And i dont mind acolhole at all! But real bad drugs like meth is not okay. ) Thats all.

Language and sex won't be a problem. Violence, though, might be. It depends on what you consider too violent, of course. I consider the violence in Skyrim pretty cartoonish, but there is beheading. As games come and go this one is something I'd feel perfectly comfortable letting my young teenage cousins play.

If your parents are worrying about Skyrim being too violent for you when you are at least a teenager, it's time to lay off the wednesday service.
Violence is, of course, present. There is blood present but it does not actively spurt out or pool realistically and is about as minimal as could be possible, you can sever limbs with enough force and there is both "light" (restoration) and "dark" (destruction) magic. Most swear words are limited to "damn" or "damned" in the proper sense (as in to damn someone for not following the right god) or "bastard" (like a bastard child). Some Satan-esque elements are involved with the dark brotherhood quests. As far as I know the F word isn't present at all. There are sex mods and you can strip yourself down to a loincloth, but all mods involved are voluntary download only and will not affect vanilla gameplay nor are the present in vanilla.

^ what he said. Unless you add mods #2 and #3 shouldn't be a problem. As for #1... you basically have to go through the game slaughtering enemies. You can actually play as a mostly pacifist, if that's what you're after, but especially in early and other certain parts of the game you'll probably have fight. As you go on, there are "kill cams", that are a little more violent and may show your character beheading enemies. Even still, I wouldn't say most of it is very gruesome, and you'll see more gore of like body parts laying in certain dungeons (again it's not extremely graphic, but it's there sometimes). All that said, you can get around a lot of the violence if you want, and I wouldn't say what is there isn't terrible. It all depends on your tastes, etc, but it's probably no worse than you'll find in some PG-13 movies.

There isn't any strong language or sex in game. There is violent content but I don't think it is over the top. I would say the violent content is more PG13 then R most of the time. There are 2 scenes in game where they execute people by beheading them and there is a perk that has a small chance to trigger a beheading with certain weapons if it is a kill move. The game is rated M but that is because they have drinking in the game at the taverns, and the violent scenes I mentioned above, definitely not for sex or language.

I would be happy for my teenage kid to play Skyrim, although I think technically it's labelled as for adults. There is a fair bit of fighting and most of it is to the death, but without modding most of the time you don't see anything too graphic, although there are 'kill cams' which are usually still kind of cartoonish (e.g. someone slitting someone's throat but you don't actually see anything gory, just the knife going across the throat and they're dead) but a few are more gory, like the beheadings mentioned above.

Those are usually fairly rare, although sometimes you seem to get quite a few for no real reason. If you really don't want to see them (fair enough!) then you might prefer to play as a magic user or archer for most of your fighting, although you might still see the occasional beheading killcam happening to your character.

As has been said above, unless you mod it in there's not really anything sexy (there's a couple of little jokes like one of the people who makes potions asks you to deliver a 'stallion's potion' to one of the people in the court and it's implied it's for That Sort Of Thing, but it doesn't come right out and say it) other than a couple of the female NPCs have sort of revealing outfits. Oh, there is one little quest to do with a woman who's been having affairs with various married men in her town, but it's very easy to miss and not remotely an important part of the game.

Far as language goes, there's at least one use of the b word (which is pretty justified given the relationship between that character and the person saying it - and I don't use that word lightly myself) and quite a bit of d*mn - like was said above, they're mostly using it in the old-fashioned/literal sense which may be better or worse depending on your family's beliefs. No sexual swearing, or anything to do with, erm, solid waste, although there's an occasional use of a word meaning urine, mostly about drinks that somebody doesn't like. There's quite a bit of drinking, although your character doesn't have to drink alcohol (though tbh I don't think there are any non-alcoholic drinks in the vanilla game, but you don't need to eat and drink unless you want to, though you get a little bit of HP back if you eat something during/after a fight).

There's one area where there are some NPCs splashing around in hot springs in just their underwear and if you remove a dead enemy's armour they will be in their underwear, but there's no nudity unless you mod it.

Tl;dr version: it's probably fine, but if you're concerned (or your parents are) there are TONS of Let's Play videos and video reviews and things on YouTube to get a rough idea of what the fighting looks like and stuff. I wouldn't say the violence is more graphic than, say, The Dark Knight or Lord of the Rings.

I thought my daughter would love games like this but she didn't take to them at first. As you said, they were too violent, had drinking and swearing...stuff she didn't like in her video games.

As she got older, she and her friends started playing it all the time.

It's a matter of personal tastes, there isn't really anything in there that young people need to be protected from. I see far worse things on my TV every single day...and let's not even get started on the interwebs.

Of course, I'm talking about vanilla Skyrim here - you could mod things in that would make me sick. All bets are off with the mods.

well, the game is 16 rated in germany and we rate kinda strict here. maybe not the strictest, but many games are censored, some are even banned. "high" age ratings are usually caused by explict violence.
16 is "teen" rated, not adult rated. so you should be fine :D

What kind of a teen are you!?
freolo78 7. apr. 2014 kl. 10.14
are u religious and have extremely christian parents or something??? Dude.. this game is about FREEDOM to do what u want. Compare it to other games and u will find out its the best game there is where u actually live in a world and do what it takes to survive. The difference is there are no real good and bad, instead u make choices that has consequences that has some advantages and some disadvantages. if u cant handle these kinds of actions, then the game is NOT for u. But if u want to live and handle the game and quests like a good guy, u can....it is difficult, but u can.

I've never has a decapitation or severed limbs. Might be because I rarely use two handed weapons.

Turning grains into alcohol was a method of food preservation...before we had things like water purification and refrigeration. I don't think the violence in this game is too much...probably far less violence than in the real world medieval time period when people would be lucky if they reached their 30's.

OP, I see you play LFD2. If you can play that then you'll be fine with Skyrim.

Good luck and have fun!

I completely understand where your coming from. I'm 18, and Christian, and like to keep it clean.
The language you deal with is mainly "d*mn", "b*st*rd". But nothing extremely bad. no f-bombs or b words here as far as I know.
If you are not a werewolf, but your married,{ I've only read this on the internet} you get a "lovers comfort" cinematic..... It should explain itself. I've always been single or a werewolf before i get married on Skyrim, so I never experience this.

There are beheadings. no limb chopping as far as I know. Its violent. and bloody.
hence "rated M for mature." I think{don't quote me} you can go under options like on most games and remove blood. but if you can't do that, get a childproof mod. the workshop has one that removes the Daedra missions, removes the thieves guild, lovers comfort cinematic, and blood. It's literally called "Childproof mod" or just look up childproof and you'll see it in the workshop of you do get the game.
I hope this helps~!
God bless,
-Potat

Oh!
and you can get a modesty mod that puts anybody in modest clothes when you loot them instead of their "underwear"
White Knight 7. apr. 2014 kl. 10.29
^^^LOL, I really don't mean to nit-pick anyone's personal morality code but I had to laugh at that one. Looting dead bodies is ok but seeing their underwear isn't...lol?

The important point is that everyone can mod it according to their personal tastes and that is a good thing.
