The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

So what is the canon ending to the civil war? ***POSSIBLE SPOILERS***
I'm sure this has been asked many times so i'll just cut to the chase. The way I see it, in the next elder scrolls title there are three possible options for the civil war:

1. Imperial Victory
2. Stormcloak Victory
3. War is still going on or has been restarted somehow
4. Dragon break (both 1 and 2 simultaneously depending on who you ask).

So, I want toio get a good idea of what people would like to see, so post which option you think is most likely/which one you prefer.

NOTE: This is NOT intended to be an endless flame thread, I want a genuine discussion about which approach bethesda shouldtake when referring to the war in future titles (they can't please everyone).

Good point. Will add a spoiler warning.
1. Imperial.
Mainly because, if you think about it, it's the might of the Empire. I mean, the Stormcloaks aren't very 'strong' and don't have as many troops as the Empire. Even if the Stormcloaks were better trained, Imperials will just overrun them.

True, but the empire isn't what it was once, it came out of the great war in a terrible state really. Ample time for a rebellion. I'm torn because, I highly doubt that this is the last we'll see of the empire - it's been around way too long for that (and they give you the option to save it). Then again, why would they introduce the stormcloaks at all if the rebellion was to be defeated?
They gave players the choice to back one of two sides in the conflict. Why would you think they would "choose" one of those options and adopt it is as cannon? All that would do is make half of the fans jump up and down and say "I was RIGHT" while the other half would be upset and feel short-changed by the devs. That would be an awful way to start off with a new title.

More likely, they will never mention it again. It's a small, regional conflict and it won't play into future titles, I would guess. If there is mention of it in a book in another game, they will probably just say that it was a dirty war that didn't really have a conclusion despite the Dragonborn's involvement. That or there is a third option, an outcome that was never a part of Skyrim, something that resolved the issue after our game. If they were feeling lazy, it would come down to divine intervention.

There is no right and wrong choice and the devs certainly aren't going to come along after the fact to tell their paying customers that they were "wrong". That would completely undermine the point of giving players choices and make people leery about making any choices in the next games.

For the sake of having fun with the question and trying to impose real world politics onto a video game however, it's extremely unlikely that the Stormcloaks could win a civil war against the Empire - they simply don't have the resources or manpower to hold off an Empire. If the Imperials wanted Skyrim, they would take it, eventually.

Even if Ulfric could unify every living soul in Skyrim, including the beasts and monsters, he couldn't hold off the Empire for more than a few years. The fact that he is a racist and an isolationist means that he wouldn't even bother to try and unify Skyrim - his rebellion was over before it started.
It wasn't the main quest, I don't see why they would need to ever mention it again. I think they're going to call this the Dragon crisis and forget any rebellion happened.
My honest opinion is that the Thalmor take full control over the Imperial City and oust the Imperials. The civil war in Skyrim is only one slice of a larger cake of war and politics that is going on in Tamriel at the time of the game.
Daggerfall is independant from all the fighting and may become a free state in Tamriel.

In the end it doesn't matter who wins in Skyrim both sides loose eventually because this civil war is what the Thalmor want so they can recover from huge losses against the Redguards and from their fight for the White Gold Tower.

We will still have an empire but instead of a Imperial /human emperor it will be an High Elf who sits on the ruby throne.

Welcome all humans to an age of darkness and persecution at the hands of the Aldmeri Dominion.

I always side with Ulfric even though I don't play a nord usually. I do this because he is up front and honest in his views where as the Imperials will even hand over their own people to the Thalmor for worshiping Talos, General Tulius even signs the papers yet he worships Talos himself. Call Ulfric all you like I know where my loyalties lie.
Warp in the North!
"Winner" of the Civil War doesn't matter. Read C0DA, Thalmor got what they wanted.
