Imperial or stormcloak?
so ive been playing with the civil war mod on, excellent mod btw, and i watched a group of soildiers tear eachother apart, it was amusing to watch but at the same time i kinda feel bad for not helping either side.
i can honestly say both sides have a reasonable point.
as much as i hate the thalmor i dont see any reason to kill a king who refuses to rebel against the aldmeri dominion because of the fear the empire will be driven into the ground,
but at the same time i really honor the fact that the stormcloacks wouild rather die fighting the dominion than to give in their rights to the thalmor, though i typically agree with the empire more the stormcloacks are pretty badass.

so i gotta ask, which side do YOU prefer?

This should be pinned. I prefer neither. Let them both get swallowed up in Oblivion for all i care.

lol hell yeah
I really have no preference. I join the Imperials but only until I can make the cougar in Dawnstar Jarl of the Pale.
I prefer stormcloak. The empire is just a shadow of what it once was, and clearly there is no leadership in Cyrodil. Your character wasn't on the list, but they were going to kill you anyway, that really made me mad, and the fact they were actively torturing prisoners in the bottom of Helgen keep too. Also the fact that the empire apparently has no control or influence with the Thalmor, as evidenced by the roving bands of Thalmor agents in Skyrim, rounding people up and marching them off to their death.

Lore-wise, we know that the Nords in Skyrim will probably naturally ally with Hammerfell if the Stormcloaks win, because the Redguards refuse to bow to the Dominion either. The Imperials basically chose to save their own skin at the expense of their traditional allies.

I'm not saying the Empire made an illogical choice to call a truce and sign the WG Concordant, but that has little relevance for the other provinces who now suffer at the hands of the Thalmor. What is needed is another Talos-type hero to purge the Empire of corruption and establish a new central kingdom, and to subdue the high elves and whatever Bosmeri factions that have allied with them. Restoration of the empire from Skyrim, just as Talos did.
If I'm playing an imperial, I go with the empire. If I'm a nord I join the stormcloaks. I'm not a race traitor... everyone else flips a coin. I have no preference either way. Although, if I plan to also join the Dark Brotherhood, I tend to not join the imperials until I've finished the DB questline, so I dont break my oath.
I chose Imperials because frankly Ulfric is a ♥♥♥♥. He murdered the High King, he was sentenced to execution and still remains ruler of the Stormcloaks and Jarl of Windhelm.
Ulfric used Nord custom of duel to challenge the king, not his fault he was a little baby that cant defend against the most basic shout....as the king of the nords ffs.

For my axe-and-shield warrior, I chose the Legion. While my character holds many sympathies with the Stormcloaks in worshipping Talos and wanting to drive the accursed Thalmor out of Skyrim, the racism of many of the Stormcloaks towards those who are not Nords like her turned her off, she believes that Ulfric's use of the Thu'um to try to grab power for himself was arrogant and wrong, and most importantly, she despised the "with us or against us" attitude that Ulfric and Galmar took in regards to Jarl Balgruuf and Whiterun, the city she calls home, and their talk of attacking the place and leaving her Jarl in disgrace was pretty much the dealbreaker -- she takes her position as Thane of Whiterun VERY seriously, and raising her axe against her Jarl is not something she'd ever do of her free will.

I may create a character for another playthrough that takes the Stormcloak route through the Civil War questline, since I am quite interested in exploring the other side of the war for Skyrim. I'm unsure of what general class to make this particular character, since I've already played as an archer assassin and an axe-and-shield warrior. Perhaps a two-handed warrior, a mage of several of the major schools, or one of the hybrid builds would be a good one for this character.
Empire wants u!
Thalmors are a real threat. Instead of fighting they should join forces.
Empire. They only submitted to the Thalmor because if they hadn't the entirety of Tamriel would have fallen to the Aldmeri Dominion (not a theory, it's explicitly stated in-game by literally anybody who knows anything about the war). They have no control or influence over the Thalmor agents because the Empire lost the war, so they are currently in no position to stand up to the Aldmeri threat. The Stormcloaks have a valid point that they believe in and fight for, but Ulfric himself only uses it as a tool to further his personal goals, nothing more. Plus he's an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. While I do agree that if Ulfric challenged Torygg to an honorable duel for the throne he should have the right to claim power, it is STRONGLY suggested that Ulfric either cheated or just simply walked in and killed him without a challenge. All Tullius wants is to end the civil war so he can go home. No hidden agenda, no lies (not about what his intent is at very least), no general douchebaggery.

I feel the need to respond to this. While the Empire does need a second coming of Talos (that would be the ultimate ♥♥♥♥♥-slap to the Thalmor huh?), I don't believe it would be necessary for him to take up arms against the Empire itself. I belive they did what they had to do, choosing the lesser of two evils. Also the Bosmer didn't ally with the Aldmeri, they were forced into providing support. The Khajiit willingly gave support, however that was due to the Altmer tricking them into thinking that the return of the moons was due to Altmer intervention, thus they were hailed as saviors (as you may or may not know Khajiit society is based around the moons)

And if you feel like going sterotypical with your theoretical alt I recommend either a two-handed warrior or a storm mage (I used an old nord shaman-esque character because I have no originality and like dropping lightning bolts on people)
This again? Seriously?

Great, so all we're allowed to talk about now are bug threads ?

I do not dictate what is allowed or not around here. I am saying, that there are multiply active topics of this same matter and new ones are opened weekly. We have questions, answers, solutions and opinions tossed all around the archive.

Problem is, that good anwers, ideas and opinions get buried, when peoples stubbornly refuse to use the Search field. Each good thread gets less attention than it would require, so none of them becomes the one you can link for good answers.

In short, I don't care if you guys wish to argue about Imperials vs. Stormcloaks matter to the end of time. I am just sad that whole forum gets shaddered by users constantly creating new topics about same matters, instead continuing the ones that already exist.
