What mods for newbie player

I am new to the game and would like to know, which mods should i use for a beginner player? I will be playing either an archer class or mage class.

Amazing Follower Tweaks, if you want companions I really like the options of this mod. Never had any problems with it. Smelting Plus.,,allows you to melt tankards, iron daggers, etc. back into iron ingots. Become a Bard is one of my favorites, just because it's fun, perform at a tavern and get paid, and a free room for the night. Have fun you're going to love this game.

I recommend going with really simple mods that can't crash your game at first. I also prefer mods that are balanced and don't make the player too OP

Lighter dragon loot and lighter leather are two extremely safe mods that I feel are balanced.

Ask Follower Skills and Alchemist's Compendium are safe and simple too. (though if you want to be balanced, don't actually go and get the Alchemy book from it's in-game hiding spot until you have done a fair bit of alchemy on your own.)

When choosing workshop mods, look on the right for the size of the file, when it was updated, last modified and read about ten comments to see if people are having problems that are not being addressed by the mod creator who stopped supporting the mod 9 months ago. Many problematic mods are rated 5 stars, so read the comments.

The only mods I'd consider using if you've never played the game before are just some graphic enhancement mods that will update the look of Skyrim for a 2014 audience. That is completely optional. However, I would not add ANY gameplay changing mods until you've playedthrough the game vanilla. If you are searching for achievements, I'd also hold out on the Unofficial patches as they can make it difficult to get the Oblivion walker achievement.

My advice, play the game first and see then what you want. What someone else suggests may not be something that you're interested in. For example, I didn't personally need that much overhaul to the follower system so I opted for General Fixes for Followers rather than Amazing Follower tweaks. Both are good mods, but they accomplish very different things and neither John Gromorg nor I know exactly how you'll respond to followers. Only you know that.

Not bad advice, Skyrimnut. One of the highest-rated and safe visuals mod is HD Plants + Herbs. And whether or not you've played the vanilla, I still recommend Lighter Leather as the weight of basic leather in the vanilla game is wrong. It makes no sense to have a hide that weighs 1 turn into a piece of leather that weighs 2, but which you can slice into 4 strips which weigh 0.1 each.

Lol, I just attributed this gross weight discrepancy to fantasy mathematics.

Or... lots of tanning liquid and resin to weigh down the leather, and then really, really, really crappy leather strip cutting techniques. Doh! Cut too wide! Doh! Cut too thin! Doh! Broke the strip! Doh!

Just look for "Skyrim Gems" and that is usually a good starting point. It's a fairly organized list of some hand picked mods which allow you to easily find mods that might interest you.

I recommend playing some of the game first and getting an idea of what you enjoy and what you would like to improve upon. I wouldn't go so far as to say you need to play the entire main story first, but play several hours and get a feel for it.
If you're looking for some good mods, go to the skyrim nexus and look for top rated mods of all time.

if you are starting out get left hand ring and unckeck dawnguard heartfire and dragonborn. otherwise you'll end up with WAy too much content in your hands to deal with. the original skyrim shoudl eb mroe than enough to keep you busy for quite a while then once youre done with it add dawngard finish it rince and repeat with the other content. that way you wont get mad cuz you have too much on your hands

If you are just starting out, I would strongly recommend watching the Youtube video series "Beginners Guide to Modding Skyrim" by Gopher. It goes in depth on the most useful mods for beginners, how to install them,what's needed to make them work and what to expect.

yes when you do decide to mod then GEMS does have a great list. I also recommend
