Music or no Music for you?
Just out of curiosity do you prefer playing with music or not music. Elderscrolls or any game for that matter.

Me Personally I usually can't stand the music in games since it takes out the Immersion for me. Hell I don't know when the last time I was walking around in real life and heard music other than malls, elevators, stores, or places like that.

No music in Skyrim. I love it, but I have been listening it long enough.
I have sound mods to counter the missing atmosphere.
The first thing I do in TES games is usually turn the music off. Not to impugn the quality of the music mind you, I just don't like having it there.
I like the music, although I don't necessarily notice it most of the time, in a conscious way. IRL I have to have my 'ears' in pretty much everywhere I go outside my home due to sensory issues/being a cranky old bat who doesn't have the energy to process/competently ignore strangers' tedious conversations, so I suppose it's normal to me to have a form of 'soundtrack' to my daily life ;) Maybe I should make a mod for my character to have a little magicka-powered radio and earphones... (loved the radio in Fallout New Vegas!)
You know in some games I find that the music even ruins the surprise of some situations. I'll take the Game Outlast for example. Sure the game will probably make you jump untill you get use to how the Enemys work, then you can predict what will happen when pretty early on. However after that "Jump moment" It is usually followed by dramatic music, indicating that someone is hunting you down. And It will stop after a while of the enemy giving up. Other than when the enemy shows himself and chases you, every now and then the music will que out of nowhere when someone noticed you and is chasing you. Right then it takes the scare out of the game by saying, hey this music means you will die unless you hide.

The Immersion is gone evein in "Scary" games. I wish the developers of outlast had an option to turn off the music so you wouldn't even know when someone was chasing you untill you heard them very close to you. I have never experienced music in any of my Elder Scroll Games other than the intro song or the bards songs. I am willing to bet battle music starts playing as soon as an npc begins to attack you also. It ruins the surprise of all of a sudden that battle cry right next to you.
I tried with no music and loved how immersive it was, however... the sound effect that occurs when you discover a new place doesn't make that sound anymore with music off. Does anyone know if that should happen or is there a way to turn music off and keep effects like that - i know its only a minor thing but I liked that sound when you discover a new place.
I prefer to play with game music on for most games including Skyrim so far. After hundreds of hours, I may get tired of the soundtrack and turn it off for a while, but will probably turn it back on again after a few hundred more.
No music. I'm a thief, need to hear the in game sounds without distraction.
I play with music, yes. I actually have music volume set higher than all the other sounds.

Sometimes I turn off the in-game sounds/music completely and listen to something else though.

Skyrim ... music, however at a somewhat lower level, other games I turn it often off. I just like the music in Skyrim.
I have it playing, but it is significantly lowered compared to the other sounds. I pump up the volume a bit when I'm in Solstheim though.

I also stop and listen to Bards many times, there is one who is awful, the one in Dawnstar. She is horrid. Unfortunately the same voice also is the bard in Windstad manor. I usually whip out the Ebony blade or something by then. Interesting NPC's really has some engaging bard work and the singers are quite good.
it depends what i am doing in game say i am a hunter or say a stelth based character i turn of music also if i am using a werewolf mod so i can here them in the wild howling as Skyrimnut is saying i turn it up in town's like :falkwreath::markarth::riften::solitude::whiterun: overhall it adds to the atmosphere at time's for me but others i need quitness allowed
I like the combat music its quite helpful letting you know something bad is about to happen... the background music does become tedious eventually, I turn the volume right down.

I modded Amnesia: The Dark Descent a while ago to not play danger music when an enemy has spawned. God, that was great. Encountering a monster around the corner out of the blue.
I let it play, since the music in Skyrim is top-notch, but I have it lowered to a "background" level that's not too intrusive on my gaming experience. The slider looks like it's at about 25% of the other sounds' level, and that's plenty loud enough for me. Otherwise, I'd miss out on the great ambient music of some dungeons, towns, combat, etc.

I too wish there was a way to tweak when the music started for combat though, as often times it's going full swing before I even notice a threat. I feel like it would be more immersive to be able to delay that trigger point a bit.
I like to have the music, because I'm not always observant, and the music tells me that there's an enemy nearby, or just about to attack
