The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Question about original "vanilla" files for Skyrim.
Looking to try to uninstall my hi-res mods but I cant tell which files belong directly to skyrim itself. I figure it's easier to wipe the mods and reinstall since I just downloaded the HQ DLC. Is there a safe way to remove my mods manually? And will I be able to reinstall Skyrim and all of the DLC's I own? All of the mods I've installed were done manually because windows 8.1 Doesn't play nice with the mod managers that people insist I use. ._. I've never used the workshop for mods due to the strange system they use to attempt a download (I find it strange at least).

Edit: This can be locked since people are too incompitent to answer my question as it needs to be answered.

Since they are done manually , you could retrace back your step?

Or look in the Data folder , mods are there , I think?

Otherwise you might want to backup your save files1
Then backup your game installation (in steam game)
Uninstall and reinstall with your backup (so you don't have to download everything)

Open the downloaded archive of your hi-res mods. Read what files are in there, delete those by hand. This is why manual installs are a bad idea. Either use Wrye Bash or NMM, both should work on 8.1 just fine just make sure Skyrim isn't installed in Program Files or anythinjg similar.
Also IIRC all vanilla game data is in BSAs.

Would you want to retrace 100 retexture mods manually...?

Will doing this uninstall the mods as well? It would be easier if I just had a list of file names for base skyrim and all its dlc..

That's why I wouldn't bother with that , just backup my save , delete the game and reinstall , way easier

But if the guy only have 10 mods install , retracing back wouldn't be that long to do

If you plan on using more than 50 mods , you should start thinking about using a mod installer to make your life easier

Sadly mod managers are incompatable for some reason, I always recieved errors when I tried to use them. For the most part I just want to reduce the amount of lag and fps drop from the hires. Are you sure that backing the game up wont back up the mods too? I dont have any ingame save files worth keeping either.

Delete all files, let Steam redownload the game, that should remove any mods. What errors do they give you? You also tried the latest version of Wrye Bash? About two weeks old.

So uninstall, delete the folder and reinstall?

Also, the last time I touched a mod manager was several months ago when both wyre bash and nmm both gave me errors, my laptop is "out of date" again and I dont exactly feel like encouraging Microsoft to ruin my laptop further. I will have to look into it when I fix this current issue.
What? Your windows is not fully updated?

I don't trust the crap that Microsoft started shoving into people's computers. They already are hindering my ability to do certain things via "incompatabilities" and have not updated beyond 8.1 and honestly I regret updating to 8.1.

Either way this is beside the point.
No it isn't. The updates contain updates so software packages other software, like mod managers, use. Sure it also updates other stuff but those softwareupdates are needed. You know you can choose for each update part if you want it? Besides what stuff have they broken on purpose? You can't keep everything compatible. Look at GTA2, it coldn't run on modern systems because they were so powerful the game freaked out.
I have a feeling my ORIGINAL question isn't going to be properly answered. Either a basic "how-to" that isn't in the form of a 2 hour tutorial video or a tl;dr would be appreciated. So that I'm not bound to mess up due to confusion from different answers.

We gave two 'easy' and straightforward anwsers man... Either backtrack with your mod archives by hand, which yeah is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of work. Or delete the whole thing and start over. Two easy ways that both suck but all there is.
Noted then, never ask steam for a simple answer. Seems I can just look up the format of answer I needed instead -.- Never can understand why people cant just give me the answer I need in the way I need it.

Is this the sort of thing you were looking for?
Have you try finding why you receive error message in the first place with the mods manager?

If you can't figure out how to fix an error of incompatibilty , you should just try harder. That way it's easier to run stuff if you understand how your own pc work

For instance , I installed a program on my friend laptop last week , it wasn't running because of some missing dll , well instead of just uninstall it and tell him it wasn't working , I fix it with the propper dll installation

I don't know what kind of answer you where looking for , it doesn't seem so hard to remove a mod , the lazy way is to make a backup of your save file , uninstall skyrim and reinstall , 30 min and you are done...
