Help with restoring Skyrim mods and saved games.
Ok folks had my hd. crash on me luckily I had just copied my skyrim saved games folder, folder with all my installed mods, as well as for my downloads folder onto a Flassh drive a few days before hand. Now I've got the drive fully back up and have downloaded and installed Skyrim again. Now I amd getting ready to d/l and install NMM and LOOT.

The question for which I've got is this. If I replace my saved games folder as well as for my installed mod folder with the ones for which I had backed the flash dricvce will they be activated when I load my saved game like the drive never crashed? Or do I've got to re-download everything and start from scratch?

Any help would be appreciated.

install your mods and tools such as SKSE from scratch. and download mods again. its possible that it will work from your drive but i wouldnt take the chance.

Thanks was hoping that I was hoping that I wouldn't have to do it that way and the back ups would have saved me.

your saves should be clouded so you only need to reinstall mods.

So your saying that my folder that has my installed mods is useless? Because when I had to install the game back in Jan most of my mods were off steam and they were all in tact when I had to do a full install.

If there is no problems with them and the saves are fine, you should be able to continue as long as they are reloaded from flash drive as they are stored and no other extra mods etc. have been installed.

I plan on installing them as they are and as I had then added to the game with nothing added or deleted from the mods folder. I appreciate the help.

DragonMaster, here's the deal, if you were/are using NMM to install your non-steam mods, then yeah, you'll need to reinstall it all as the installation order is pretty important especially with texture mods. Your steam mods however, will redownload when you launch the Skyrim Launcher.

My suggestion, if you are adventurous, would be to ditch NMM and give Mod Organizer a try. With MO, there's no need to worry about installation order during the install. You just move your mods in the order you want them and you can easily see every mod file conflict to ensure you get the mod you want to take presidence.

Think of it like this, with NMM, everytime SMIM has an update you have to uninstall every mod that is installed after SMIM. Install the new version of SMIM, then install all the mods that overwrite SMIM files. With MO, you just install the new version of SMIM. MO uses virtual directories so each mod is installed into it's own folder. No overwriting files like NMM does. Safe, clean, and once you get the hang of it, organized. :D

Now I thought that NMM was just a downloader/installer for your mods and a program like BOSS or LOOT was used for sorting your mods into the proper load order? If this isn't the case and NMM does this then what do we need Boss or LOOT for?

LOOT replaces BOSS. MO is more powerful and less intrusive than NMM. So, to sort and manage your mods the above combination MO+LOOT works very well.

Where would I find MO?

DM, I suggest watching a few of the tutorial videos on MO. You'll have a much better understand of how it all works. Going from NMM to MO can be intimidating as it was for me, but now, I can never go back.

That depends on what kind if re-install you were doing, was it a clean install or a normal one?
