Are enbs really worth it?
As you may have guessed from all the enb discussions I posted I'm really concerned about realvision. I was just wondering if realvision was worth the performance drop. I mean, I already have the bethesda texture packs and my quality ingame is high with 1920x1080 pixels. I really wanted the enb but does it really make your game look better?

Yes, it does look better. But it is a trade off, as it sounds like you're experiencing. TBH, I use ENB but sometimes, if I just want a bit more framerate for whatever reason, I'll bring up the ENB console (shift+enter) and turn it off. Right now, the only features I'm using on the ENB are:
Adaptation
AmbientOcclusion
DetailedShadow
DepthOfFiend
Underwater

You still get a lot of the colour / lighting correction, so it improves the overall look with only those features on, but you should get a bit more frame rate than everything turned on, though probably quite marginal. DoF is a big frame rate killer, so that's to your own taste really. I just can't live without it any more lol.

Lol. Yeah. By the way how do you turn on the enb console? Shift and enter isn't working for me.
Heavily depends on specs, but if you can handle it, it's worth it.

Worth it to me. It drastically improves my enjoyment when the game looks good. I'm the kind that likes scenery and stuff and Skyrim is one of the few games where I often stop playing because I stumbled upon a great view.

Also, I like how RealVision makes the night and dungeons realistically dark. That's the first thing that I really didn't like with vanilla. It's like things emit light their own light. When you're playing a squishy mage in legendary, it makes it so you have to creep around and actually use torches or lighting spells.

Assuming you get the ENB flash when you start Skyrim, what ENB version are you on? Some of the older ones don't have it, IIRC.
I played with an ENB for a while and it really did make my game look fantastic, they're brilliant for that but the thing is that they don't really effect your immersion in the game. I was still just as enthralled in the game without them as I was with them.

well if your running sharpshooters you can turn it on and off in game and just run it with vanilla textures and lighting and switch it back if you want instantly I have a GTX 660 and an 8 core cpu 3.5 ghz and i get 60 fps in homes and shops and 45-60 in villages and skyrim I get a normal of 55 though

It made my game a lot more immersive. Being able to see in a dungeon that doesn't have any light sources kills immersion for me.

Yeah. Which type of realvision did you choose? I chose fantasy.
No, it doesn't look "better" unless you think it looks better. I think ENBs look awful myself, and the FPS hit is just another reason to not use one.

People thinking the normal game looks better than a custom ENB game... That is the first time I have ever heard of that.
Could you elaborate?

Option A with RLO.

Well you haven't been paying attention because I'm definitely not the first one to say it.

This is what my game looks like(except I stopped using Flora Overhaul because of the fps hit):

disclaimer: if you notice the weird fps and v-sync issues in that video, that has something to do with how it recorded on shadowplay and was converted with youtube. The game runs much, much smoother than that.

There seems to be some misconceptions here.

ENBs has nothing to do with "high quality graphics". Those are dependent on your textures. ENBs tweak graphic options and have accompanying lighting mods which change things like color, saturation, warmth, and a whole lot more. You can use an ENB without any HD textures at all.

The purpose is to change the atmosphere of your game. You can make it look realistic, or cold and harsh, or warm and fruity, or fantasy-like and foggy, or a whole lot more.

Edit: Added a(n old) YouTube video comparing vanilla to RealVIsion.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JAdaE1n2J1Q

Edit 2: The video shows vanilla to RealVision with CoT installed, I believe, which is a weather mod that's why you'll see snow and rain effects are more pronounced in the video when compared to vanilla.

All in all, as a package, RealVision (and all the required mods) is really great. Light from fires are nice and warm, when it's snowing or raining and you look up, snow and rain will get in your eyes and blur your vision for a second or two, and there's a lot of other small touches that really improve immersion for me.

Good point. I'm using lots of graphical mods without ENB, and I think it looks better than the vanilla game. I used the same mods with ENB, and I did not like the colors and lighting.
