I know what you mean, my frames are dropping in Towns/Cities on about 30 FPS. Outside I got 60+ Frames constantly. I also spent on a new RAM stick and a new GPU, but still can`t play smooth in the Citys, even with or withot mods/low graphic settings.
I think, that`s because the CPU has to process all NPC`s and their activity.
Quote:
"A dual-core processor offers enough horsepower to play Skyrim, especially if it's aggressively clocked. We were also surprised by how fast the new Core i7-3960X was, delivering 20% more performance than the i7-2600K. Meanwhile, we were saddened to see AMD's FX series deliver a substandard showing."
End Quote.
Weirdly, the newer AMD offerings are not as good as their older offerings - or so it would seem.
Skyrim doesn't help matters because, although it will address more cores, it seems to favour one over the rest. Ported game nemesis. Anyway, I'm sure you'll end up with an acceptable and very playable game, eventually. Here's hoping and good luck.
Edit: It appears (overclock.net) that 62 C is the Tcase upper limit for an AMD FX 6300 so you should seriously throttle back the settings (medium?) until you get proper cooling.
Be careful because there are two measurements of the CPU temp: Tjunction Max and Tcase max Tjunction Max would be the internal temperature of the CPU cores while Tcase would be the temp reported in the BIOS. The core temp is usually about 10C higher than the temp reported by the BIOS (dependant on load).
So, it is entirely possible the i5 750 will achieve better results because it may safely run at higher temperatures than your AMD CPU.
I would check the AMD site for Tjunction and Tcase maximum values for your CPU.
Because the i5 is that much better than a 6300, as far as games are concerned at least. And skyrim uses CPU almost exclusively for some things, like shadows. 7970 becomes a spectator.
Get a 20 or 30$ aftermarket cooler for that CPU, do some reading on the how tos, and OC that 6300 until he says enough.
Your performance should shoot up, not just in Skyrim but everywhere. A 7970s is hardly well paired with that CPU, but make the best of it.
Alright man, thank you. I just bought a CM Hyper 212 Evo, but I'd like to actually save a little more money ontop and buy an FX 8350. Hopefully that should boost my performance significantly.
Grrr... That thing's too big for my case! It's taken me weeks to get my CPU temp down to a constant 54 degrees on full chat, you'll have no problems at all. Good choice! :-)
Yes definitely. Since you already have the AMD backbone, same socket, yea go for it. EVO top notch cooler too. Expect an easy 4.8/5 Ghz from the 8350 if the motherboard or ram don't get in the way. 7970 performance now and then, will be night and day.
At the price range FX-8350 loses a bit to intel in gaming still, but beats em at everything else, since amd actually does 8 physical, actual cores, and no 4 cores + 4 threads. They take the manly approach.
