The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Just realized something...
Dwemer, the gods of Machinery. Created robots deadlier and more intelligent than a bandit, infinitely riding off of a soul gem. Made all manner of traps and steam-powered things. They even made a box openable with only Dwemer blood.

...you can pick a Dwemer lock with a lockpick.

Maybe the Dwemer were bad locksmiths? Nobody is perfect after all.
And we humans, with our multi-petaflop supercomputers, still use hammers and nails. Technology doesn't all advance at once - it advances according to convenience.
Bah, stupid humans, you can pick a human lock with a lockpick.

I think something else goes along with that.
"If you wish to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first create the univ-" Wrong quote, same guy...
"We live in a society exquisitely dependent on science and technology, in which hardly anyone knows anything about science and technology."

But for the Dwemer, I suppose it makes sense. After all, the automatons would probably rip any to-be-thief to shreds. But it doesn't change the fact that the Dwemer have the exact same locks as there are currently outside. Two seperatly created locks like that, but being the same, is a bit odd.
The Dwemer obviously were not smart enough to invent plastic for key card entry.
I saw the Dwemer "To-Do" list... 'better locks' was next, but then they disapeared.
In Morrowind the Dwemer also had a different currency and you couldn't disable traps with lockpicks... So yeah simplification 2.0 in Skyrim I guess :P
