I don't usually care about that. Servers have their own safety measures and users will report immediatly, if something crooked is out there.
To my experience, dedicated social sites around games are among most reliable download sites there are.
Don't you feel the OP is actually "trolling" ... ? I mean, seriously ...
Then suck it up and walk away if you're too scared.
BTW, get Avast!, i've used both, Norton's good, but doesn't pick up everything.
Do you have any idea how cautios some people can be from their nature? OP might be trolling, but reminding Nexus policy is still a good idea.
He might also be serious, but we just pulled out our branding iron...
Shall the OP refers to "adult sites" and those "questionable free hacked softwares" as well as "pirated game copies" ... then I would have considered "cautious nature" as a possible reason; however, the OP refers to the Nexus website.

Nexus just recently had another virus problem. It lasted about an hour, but some peoples downloaded virus to their computers. This happened about month ago.
That event was one of the reasons why AV procedures were tightened.
As I said, I consider game social sites among safest sites around all file sharing sites. It does not mean that they are 100 % safe.
Perhaps I shouldn't place the OP on the par with most people ... you see, despite that event with Nexus ... We ALL [or as I presumed] have anti-virus softwares [or as I presumed] ... and would check each file with the anti-virus before unpacking [or as I presumed] ...
... however, I understand and see what you refer now: I apologise for unable to understand and grasp it earlier because the mere concept of it is so far fetched for me "personally".
There is usually very little reason for anyone to unpack anyting they have downloaded from nexus. I am occasionally doing it to work with textures and certain mods with a lot of options (creating completley new zip-files from them), but average user simply downloads the data with NMM or MO and installs it to their game.
That said, I have personally more than one program guarding my comptuer. There haven't been a single infection - or even detection - in years. I am also using safeguards in my browser(s) (AdBlock +, BetterPrivacy, Ghostery, HTTPS-Everywhere and NoScript) and cleaning both my registery and DNS cache weekly with CCleaner.
I am freely downloading and testing files from Nexus, blogs and other Skyrim social sites. I have never stopped to individually check each damn file that I got.
My point is, that there is no reason to be overly afraid of virus infection. It isn't smart to say that they couldn't be there either, when they are known to slip trough even AVs guarding something that we consider as "trusted." If in doubt, search information about site or filename. If it does not feel legit, then you can live without it. ♥♥♥♥ can happen, either way. There is little that we can do abou it, except to follow Scootis79's advice.
