Poor knuckles...
I would like your opinions of what happened to knuckles that caused him to turn from a rough and tough fighter to a dumb echidna with "average intelligence" in sonic boom. My theory is that in sonic generations when he comments on sonic's performance, amy whacks him head-first into a tree, hitting his noggin. I am open to any comment you may have and your theorys of how this may have happened to knuckles.

sonic boom is sheath abomination (spin-off) , unrelated to Generations or Lost World.
I hope SB will die quickly and painful death

He was hardly rough and tough to begin with, and the notion of this not being the case is ridiculous. Sonic 3 introduces him as just messing with Sonic and Tails from the sidelines... and toppling over into the water of Launch Base from standing on a thin platform under the rocket while it takes off, losing to Sonic in the most pathetically easy boss of the classic games, failing to prevent Eggman from taking the Master Emerald and getting shocked for it, and then just hanging around in Sky Sanctuary while Sonic storms the Death Egg and rescues the Master Emerald on his own.

He gets tricked by Eggman a second time in Triple Trouble, losing to Sonic in an underwater fight despite using a machine designed for underwater combat, and then getting himself captured in a cage (which Sonic breaks by just jumping into).

He shows up in Sonic the Fighters as the first and easiest fighter that barely puts up any sort of fight.

He gets tricked by Eggman a third time in Sonic Adventure, lets the Master Emerald get broken right behind his back, fumbles Sonic's Chaos Emeralds over to Eggman during their fight, and doesn't put up any fight with Chaos in the Last Story despite going toe to toe with Chaos 6.

He gets tricked by Eggman a fourth time in Sonic Advance 2, and manages to lose to Sonic in the 'hardest'/cheapest boss of the whole game.

Need I add more, like how the Sonic OVA and Sonic X (both officially overlooked by Sonic Team) treat him?

Knuckles trusts Eggman multiple times in the FIRST season of Sonic X... and sometimes acts helpless

I think the focus should be on how incompetant Knuckles is at staying next to the Master Emerald. For a supposed "guardian" he spends an awful lot of time leaving it unattended. The beginning of the Knuckles story in SA is the only game that sets up his guardian role

Sonic Boom isn't made by the main team so hopefully Sonic Team never have any involvement with the changes in Sonic Boom. I know Knuckles isn't the smartest guy but he was never as dumb as he was made in Sonic Boom, he's even MIA from his job aka guardian of the master emeralds so it's best to pretend Sonic Boom didn't exist.

Maybe alternate dimension. If in the comics the Freedom Fighters help sonic like in Sonic Unleashed, but in a game it never happened, then we find Sonic Boom, then I am guessing their are multiple sonic's with multiple worlds.

So essentially we have Sonic in a sort of Xenoverse plot. Be nice if we could have the fleetway super sonic.

Sonic Boom had no influence by Sonic Team. In fact in interviews I've watched & read it turns out that Sonic Team was against Sonic Boom becoming a thing. Mainstream Sonic and Boom Sonic have nothing at all to do with each other and couldn't even be considered an alternate dimension kind of plot like the Sonic Rush games had
