I noticed that upon enemies being destroyed, they sometimes leave white dots. When the player gets close to the white dots, they are absorbed. Does it have a functional purpose?

I finally got around to finishing the game. The game was good for taking a break from mentally tiring work. All I have left are all the non-progression achievements (and the cosmetic unlocks), or so I should. I somehow didn't unlock the achievement for unlocking ice level 5 despite going all the way to magma level 5. I didn't think much of it at the time, but I believe I unlocked magma level 1 and ice level 5 at the same time once I completed 15+ waves of ice level 4. I hope that helps....
