[SOLVED] No Sound = No Fun
Bah, I can't get any sounds to play on this game. I have over 15 games on the Steam client and this is the only one (and actually the only game that I've ever played) where no sound was coming through. What the heck is going on??

I have a HP Compaq 6910p laptop, running an Intel Core2Duo T7300 processor with 4 gigs of RAM, on Windows XP Pro SP3. Chipset: Intel Mobile GM965 Graphics: Intel GMA X3100

I have DX9 installed and the Audio drivers are up to date.

The game itself has a fun mechanic, but what's the point of playing without any sound?
Ugh, this is my first Worms game, and I wanted to like it, but so far, I'm disappointed that a game that's clearly not ready for the PC has somehow made it onto Steam.

I'm having the same problem too. No sound whatsoever. This is the only game I've ever had this problem with on any computer. All my drivers and DX9 and 11 are up-to-date.

And we're not alone -- the old forum was full of other people reporting this problem. I can't believe they wouldn't do something to fix it!

Gah... just put your own music on or something.

According to the developer's system requirements, Worms Crazy Golf is supposed to play on Windows XP with DX9 as well as Windows 7 with DX11. Why would I spend $100 upgrading to Windows 7 on the chance that this game, which retails for $10, may or may not work, when every other game plays fine. Also, as addressed by Angoratatouille's comment above, apparently having Windows 7 and DX11 installed doesn't solve the sound problem.

Playing my own music may be an option I'd consider after having played this game a while, but one of the reasons I got it was to enjoy the quirky sounds effects. There is certainly more to life than complaining about a game (this can be said for countless other things as well); however, if consumers simply feel content about a buggy product and not complain, no developer will ever be compelled to make any fixes or improvements.

Also, this game has been out for almost a year (launched Oct 19, 2011), so if they haven't patched the sound issue by now, gawd knows when they will... another year? C'mon Team17, get on the ball and take care of this.

I had this exact problem when I downloaded this game tonight. You have to install DXSDK_Jun10.exe. Its the Direct X SDK,

Heres the link --> http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=6812

I did that and the sound works flawlessly now! Hope this helps anyone!

Thanks. Even helps to fix the sound running in WINE under Linux.

Ugh. Why wasn't this fixed ages ago? Seriously?! Download and install the entire DirectX 9 SDK to fix this!? 572 MB (plus install) of wasted space? There has got to be a better way. So I went looking...

This KB article tells us that some older apps and games require DirectX 9 installed regardless of what latest version of DirectX you have installed:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/179113

For all versions of Windows to date (I tried this with Win10 and it worked to fix the sound) here is the full DirectX 9 Runtime installer (directx_Jun2010_redist.exe, much more modest at 96 MB):

https://www.microsoft.com/en-in/download/details.aspx?id=8109

For XP and older Win versions, I suggest the above but you could also try the DirectX 9 Runtime web installer (dxwebsetup.exe):
https://www.microsoft.com/en-in/download/details.aspx?id=34429
[Note: I tried this web installer on an XP machine and it didn't fix the sound, probably due to DX9 already installed and up to date. I tried the full runtime installer and that worked.]
