Got the game for my birthday, doesn't work.

I start the game, the screen flashes black, and the game closes. That's it. That's all the information I have available to me at this moment. What is the problem?

I hate window mode for most games, but lowering the resolution wroked. Looks hidious in steam overlay, but works. Thank you.
