crash in Win XP due to 2 mice connected to the machine

This must be one of the lamest bugs in the history of video games.

This game is crashing if the computer has 2 mice devices connected to it with the following
error:

AppName: commandos3.exe AppVer: 0.0.0.0 ModName: dinput.dll
ModVer: 5.3.2600.5512 Offset: 00011498

I have a mouse and a trackball. If I disconnect or disable in Device Manager
one of them then the game seems to work fine with the other (only tried 5 mins so far)

I would be ashamed to be the programmer who wrote the input layer or
the QA manager of this team!
