Custom resolutions for the updated build
After a little digging with a hex editor, I wrangled the new offsets for the resolution for the current Steam build.

Offset Bytes to Find and Change Gameplay Resolution 00022150 68 2d 42 00 b8 20 03 00 00 00022190 a8 2d 42 00 b8 58 02 00 00 Gameplay Area 000221f0 40 2e 42 00 ba 20 03 00 00 0002221a 50 2e 42 00 ba 58 02 00 00 Menu Resolution 000221c0 b8 20 03 00 00 c3 000221d0 b8 58 02 00 00 c3

For the full context and instructions refer to my original discussion[www.gog.com] on the legacy version. I won't be uploading new custom binaries because the version might still change. Besides, Nightingale1's modified GOG binary[forums.revora.net] does the job.

Changing these values has exactly the same effects as in the legacy build. The old interface files work, with the old instructions. The same exact warnings and caveats apply: the executable must be called "Commandos3.exe"; the menu is best left alone; higher resolutions cause instability, the higher the worse. 1080p is out of the question, but 720p is quite manageable. 1366x768 is midway: more than two viewports will crash. It's unfortunate that James and the other Merge folks haven't been able to address this. That, and the train level is still borked.

As an aside on windowed modes, D3DWindower is no longer useable with the new build because the file is Steam DRM-ed: starting the executable from explorer calls up Steam, which then initialises the binary proper. It's not full on CEG, but it's enough to cause annoyances. Fortunately, the DXWnd hook still works. That, plus setting 16-bit color compatibility on the file, seems to fix the train level. Just make sure to skip the intro movie with the bike chase, which also causes a crash when windowed.
