Increashing ship speed?

I enjoy the game but it feels like I'm moving around relatively slowly, is there anyway to increase my base speed permanantly?

That would interest me too, I just installed the game in Linux for the first time and the speed goes nuts on me. I can't remember ever configuring the speed in my windows installation and everything was nice slow (I like to chill and surve the sound waves) .,,
now, the moment I hit a wave my speedometer goes of the scale and I rush through everything ... how can I stop this?
