When the sun rises in the west and sets in the east. When the seas go dry and mountains blow in the wind like leaves.
Doesn't the sun rise in the west, set in the east and haven't the seas have gone dry on Arrakis, Muad'Dib?
Can't wait for the film. It's hard not be excited. But, I keep saying to myself, "I must not watch the hype, the hype is a mind-killer." That said, all indicators are positive. This means sequels. Finally, we may get to watch, God, Emperor of Dune on the screen!
But seriously, does any one if they actually did have to start again? They had a demo out 4 years ago and sure they have shown and added a lot of things since then, but from what I have seen of the alpha, it almost looks like it has regressed in some respects from things that were in the demo, like with the AI for instance.
They started from scratch after having learned from their previous experience. The old Jurassic Patch demo (as it was called) had some issues and it was difficult adding to it without breaking it each and every time. The reason they've started over was so adding newer features would be easier (at least, that's how I've understood it).
The new Alpha build is much more robust in what's possible with building and creating and a definite improvement on the old build. Animal AI and behaviour was wonky at best in the old demo. Most of the time dinosaurs would walk in circles and die of hunger and thirst.
There is no real animal behaviour and AI to speak of in the Alpha build as well (except for some grazing, wandering, running, resting and sleeping animation), but at least animals don't walk in circles anymore. Pathfinding is also improved. As long as they can traverse something, they actually will. Meaning they will walk in and out of holding pens, over modular rocks and even bridges. Human guests have the same behaviour.
The reason why we are getting less animals at early access launch is because they want to nail animal AI and behaviour. Less starter animals but more natural behaviours in turn. I'm looking forward to seeing what they will add in the coming beta.
So they did have to start over again, that explains a lot.
