My right trigger which by default is bound to the right pedal, is firing missiles in the first memory mission.
I went to my controls and unbound literally every single command that fired a weapon and it STILL does it. I just can't win with this game.
Infantry can still be worked with the mouse.
There is a binding for each category and you need to take the time to set them all up because, there are some missions that you might want to operate each type.
While the topic isn't true, though I would dearly love to see OP try and "make a better helicopter sim in RPG maker." That's not to say that the rest of his post is the same way. No need to defend ToH where it clearly fails to deliver. Look at how controls are done in every other flight sim/game, they make sense and everything works in a consistent and logical manner, something ToH fails to achieve miserably. Seriously, look at some screenshots of controls sections for FSX, or XPlane, or even FS9 (if you're not familiar with them first hand that is.)
Every vehicle can be operated by the player in TOH. Given that some have more defined controls than others and some have reduced "flight models" because they were ported over from Arma 2. How else are you going to set up for all those different vehicles?
I'm not trolling when I say this. Go download DCS World. It's free on steam. They handle it rather well. It's not perfect and it is similar to ToH and ARMA in terms of control bindings, but the interface is a lot nicer and they are not shy about longer names for binding descriptions. You may not necessarily know what a switch in the cockpit does, but you'll be able to find out what input is bound to it. :)
I've reset my controls to my liking in those programs also. And in my opinion. TOH is not any more difficult than DCS World. Both take time to set up correctly.
There more "aircraft controls" that need to be set up in DCS World because they model all the weapon systems, engine systems, and most of the other stuff used in the aircraft. TOH doesn't have all those things in the aircraft controls but it has other controls that need to be set up. Like infantry, because you can get out and walk around in TOH whereas you can't in DCS World.
TOH was basically a flight sim of helicopters taken from Arma 2. People were playing Arma 2 solely to just fly around the helicopters. So Bohemia make a sim for those. They improved the flight model in TOH for the more hard-core simmers because the Arma 2 was more arcade like. But then, they decided that mission made for Arma 2 could be put into TOH since it was based off the Arma 2 engine. So the needed all the control systems for controlling your avitar/character. For those that are simply here for just the flying aournd in a helicopter, it may be a bit more complicated than they want it. But it is neccessary for those of us who like the freedom of playing the accasional war scenario or other that needs us to get out and interact.
I would not say that TOH setup is more difficult than DCS World. I would say they are about the same.
