If you look for a "il-2 II" await the new il-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Stalingrad (WiP for another developer), that (IMO) also will not be a "il-2 II". :)
2 - All you hear about the game released bugged is true.
3 - The developer improved performance with patchs - but cut graphics - the NET code and erase some bugs - some still (dont prevents play the game).
4 - The game is "killed" by publisher - no longer official (via STEAM) patchs.
If you are fan of realistic WWII simulator and accepts all above buy the game, in promo weekends you find very cheap (5/10$).
After, install MOD 3.0/3.01 patch Team Fusion that improve graphics, corrects aircraft performance at high altitudes and erase some bugs. New MOD patch is expected for "two weeks, be sure". :)
Are a small active community online, see ATAG, Storm of War...
Are a better contend for single player in www.airwarfare.com, eg. REDUX campaign.
AI is inconsistent, sometimes smart, sometimes very dump, and only accept player orders for formation flight (a step back relative to il-2 1946) - if at start the mission player put game in autopilot some instants.
Despite all (IMO) is the best WWII simulator created at the date - a real shame that is not properly finalized before release, and have been killed by publisher.

Couple of opinions are that cliffs of dover was a failure compared to previous IL2games. I have high hopes for IL2 Battle of Stalingrad though, but it will definitely not be a cheap game, with lots of extra aircrafts/map-packs/modifications to buy (if 777studio pushes their business model into it, that is). Anyway, 777+1C smells like simulation quality to me.
I always considered myself a "diehard" fan of il-2:1946, but after used to CloD (an his faults :) ) I lost interest in il-2... I think the reason is see how how good a simulator could be ... if are properly finished...

Is like I say, CloD is not a "il-2 II".
If one look for this is better stay away of CloD - case of major of il-2 simmers.
You hear: "CLOD dont have COOP".
Untrue, is possible do COOP in CLoD, but not in il-2:1946 way - that is what il-2 simmers want (and beg for il-2:BoS :) ), if one look for exactly this, stay away of CloD.
But if just want fly a MP mission with friends PVE, PvP, P&EvP, P&EvP&E, is possible.
CloD is just a game based on BOB, with adequate planeset, but (IMO) lack appropriate weather (because targeted too far: a dynamic weather, and fail...) for a true "BoB"... (You have basically clear sky with "il-2" medium clouds).
Well, since you can "test" Clod for 5/10$ at least give you a parameter to judge how good new titles must be. ;)

You are right, this game is not arcade and dont run in your "Atari" PC, your shoud buy Pac-Man instead. :)

IL-2 BOS actually has the same developers as all the other IL-2 games. They merged with 777 Studios, the devs of Rise of Flight. I have a sim boner just thinking about it.
