Out of thread ids. Decrease the number of threads or increase MAX_THREADS_SUPPORTED
Please help me, I am not very good with computers (at all) and have no idea how to fix this problem. I've also looked everywhere else online and couldn't find a single answer that was helpful... I received this notification error right after downloading the Alien Swarm game. i have two GPU cards plugged in though only one is connected to the power source. (I don't know if that has anything to do with the error I'm just guessing)

Does that error pop up when you try to launch AS? What's your OS?

AS is alien swarm

MAX_THREADS_SUPPORTED is defined as 32 in the Alien Swarm SDK. If you have more than 32 cores (or 16 with hyperthreading), make sure you set the affinity of the process to not use all of them.

Hello Duckbox, I don't believe the issue has anything to do with your GPU's. SDK means Software Development Kit, and I believe that going into Windows Task Manager, (Ctrl + Alt + Delete) after launching the game you can go to the processes tab on Windows Task Manager and right click on the Alien Warm Process (Alien Swarm.exe or AS*32.exe or something close to those, (I've never played Alien Swarm, just trying to help with what seems like a general issue.)) Click on "Set Affinity..." and I'd believe you'd either uncheck a CPU Processor or check <All Processors> Tell me if it works. I believe that'd solve your problem. Especially if it has to do with processor threads.

Sound like it should be working, I tried and... When i start the game i get the error. Then i go and change the Affinity to use just a few threads. The game exit when i close the error message. When i start the game again it does not remember the change in affinity. All 32 threads are again selected :( Anywhere i can change the affinity static?

C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /C start "" /affinity xx "Change to:GAME.EXE_LOCATION"

where 'xx' is changed to what thread you want to use.
This did not work for me.

it doesnt work ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ i wanna play alien swarm ..... ♥♥♥♥
Hello everyone !
I recently changed my PC for a new one and my L4D2 SDK (hammer) doesn't work anymore apparently due to an incompatibility with my new hardware, in particular my CPU (threadripper 1950x)
So I guess my question is, could anyone help me to make it work pretty please?
I already tried many different methods but none of them works (well one works but forces me to "downgrade" my CPU potential by enabling only half my cores in the W10 starting options, effectively reducing my CPU's full potential for my other programs...Also tried a BAT file with various threads/cores affinity settings but no luck
(cd "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Left 4 Dead 2\bin"
start /affinity 0x1 hammer.exe)
I am getting desperate and I'm starting to think I won't ever be able to work on maps anymore which is a shame cause I love that hobby..
Also tried all 0x2 0x3 etc...combinations in the BAT file, but no luck..
It really feeIs like I am the only one on the whole planet trying to work on L4D2 hammer with a Threadripper lol

Ok so with Ryzen Master Edit, you can choose a "gaming" profile that enables a compatibility mode for older softwares, simple as that...So many hours looking and asking, and it was that simple...can't believe it...lol
