Is there a way to check progress on Companion Cube achievement?

Exactly what it says up there. I have no idea how many I've gotten so far, but I haven't even cracked the 50 cube one...

You'll hear "Still Alive" so many times you'll soon come to realize that it is likely to be the song played while you sit in the waiting room to hell.

I only just recently completed the 100 pieces achievement and this is coming from years since having bought the game the day it was released on Steam. Grind achievements in a music-based game where you have no control over variance on what you can hear are among the absolute worst things a developer can do to its potential customers.

Ha ha ha. Yeah. I kinda hate that stupid Portal song now. Remember when it was new and everyone quoted it to be hip? I hated it back then too.

I just turn down the audio and play a CD in the background... hey, maybe when Steam Music goes live I'll be able to use that instead. :)

Does it count to just place the cube and then to restart the game or do I have to play until the time is running out?

I think that as long as you place the cube and exit the stage cleanly (by exiting through the menu and not ragequitting with alt+F4), it'll count.

This achievement was definitely a grind. Hopefully Chime Sharp won't have anything like this one when it comes out. I wanna play this game to get a high score/coverage, not to grind to a specific multiplier, place a special piece, then quit and restart. I could play the game a bajillion times and not get bored of it, but man if that Cherry on Top cheevo wasn't tedious.
