Window mode please? Anybody?!?
Is it possible to play in window mode? How?!? If not, dear devs, please add this feature.

Press Alt+Enter

Exactly, Alt+Enter, and then you can resize the window as you wish!

I don't get why people would play a game that seems to be worth to sink into in a window with distracting stuff around it.

Because that "distracting stuff" is almost always more important than a game?

Fullscreen games run like garbage when tabbing out and if something important comes up I'd rather my computer not lock up for thirty seconds and resize all of my windows.

When I have more important stuff to do than gaming, I do not play games - at least not such a kind of game.
Some games aren't worth playing when you don't have the time to concentrate on them, some are spoiled by not concentrating on them.
When something unexpected arrives in-between, it's not only more impotrant than the game, but also more important than the agony of resizing windows.

I feel people forget how to sink into a game, getting the full immersion, not just to play around a bit, tab out again and check some news.

"if something important comes up"

Playing in windowed mode does not prevent paying attention to something.

When something unexpected arrives in-between, it's not only more impotrant than the game, but also more important than the agony of resizing windows.

...pressing alt+tab is not something I'd describe "agony"

I feel people forget how to sink into a game, getting the full immersion, not just to play around a bit, tab out again and check some news.

I feel people forget that gaming is an entertainment medium and being elitist about the freaking window size people use is laughably conceited.

Play "Life is Strange" or "To the Moon" or "This War of Mine" or "Firewatch" or "Outlast" or "Antichamber" or "Amnesia" in a window, and I promise you'll have less exciting times than I had with these games.
In my humble opinion, you are missing something about what can make games great.
But... have fun your way.

@Sellyme, @Rat King: Thank you for your answers!!! :D Much appreciated.

@Zyro: Consequently, your way means to remove anything distracting from around a game, i.e. sitting in a dark room or using VR. That is not my way. I don't have block out the outside world to enjoy something. I have two monitors and believe me, I fell through Antichamber's world on the right side, having the most fun anybody ever had with that game while on the left monitor code was compiling and running test suites.

Oh, and Solitune doesn't run very well in full screen on one monitor, when something else is happening on the other one.

With certain games, I try to. Like playing Amnesia in a dark room with headsets.
Or making sure there's enough time to play through before starting withTo The Moon.
And I surely will buy a VR device some day. It's just indescribable.

I can't imagine how this works, but if it does for you... lucky you. :)
(No, I don't feel less lucky, I found my way to get absorbed by the game.)
