can't start any kind of game

any time I try to start a game the game closes and exit out of it.

put a mic in the mic slot for it to work, it is just a silly bug

the same thing is happening to me- everytime i try to start anything, it exits to my desktop.
i don't have a mic- what else can i do?

i can play the game, but with no sound by disabling the sound mixer in the audio options. unbelieveable.
