The game wont start?

I have owned this game for some time, but now when i want to play i get an error message. I can play all the othere games that i owne on steam but this game seems to have some problem with the steam server becouse i cant run it on my computer.

Well, I can start it without any problems on Windows 8 (not 8.1 - can't upgrade to the latter for some reason). What error message? Have you verified the cache? Have you upgraded something (hardware like software)?

I get an unkown error message. It tells me to synk the game (did that dosent work), then i tried to reinstall steam (didn't work). I looked inside of the steamapp and tried to force the game to run from there but there it tells me that i have some directX problem. I tried to update DirectX but it dosent work either. It worked before, now it dosent. Steam must have updated somthing becouse last time i played this game was a month ago, and back then i didnt have this problem
