im having trouble getting past the part in which you must get an explosive and place it in front of a large blockade of boulders to the machine room and i cant get to a safe place because i dont know where to go or how to light to pot of explosives. please someone help!

Throw a rock at it, once you place it at the base of the rock pile. There should be rocks lying at the top of the nearby stairs.
