IS AMNESIA (the game) scary? (like jump scares)

No, Amnesia is an atmospheric horror game.

Ok, So amnesia isn't a jumpscare kind of game. It's a survival horror game. So you can be hunted by a monster and you can be terrifed, with no jumpscares whatsoever.

Yes, even with no monsters its scary as sh*t. Its all about the audio. Be alone, in the dark, headphones or surround sound cranked up.

I didn't find the game scary at all. Not in the least. The audio is actually kind of eff'ed up. I have a surround sound system. With this game I get some sort of weird thing where if I am not facing the source of the sound(s), they cut off completely.

A great example is dripping water. If I am staring at the water, I hear it just fine, if I turn to my left, the audio for the water gets cut out completely.

I do not have this issue with any other games. This is the only one.

Besides the audio issues, I don't find the game remotly scary. Don't believe a majority of the videos posted on youtube as they are most likely uploaded by attention seeking ♥♥♥♥♥♥.

I'd actually suggest just turning off all your lights in your house and wandering around it in the dark. If you want, have your stero play some spooky sound effects, it'll be amost exactly like playing this game, hell, it might be better.

It has a few jump scares in it, but they are few and far between (As a good jump scare should be). about 95% of the horror and scare of this game comes from the atmosphere - sound design, asthetics and level design and all excellent. The fact that it is just you alone with no way to defend yourself bar throwing an object to stun an enemy for a few seconds makes it terrifying.

You will often get the feeling that something is just behind you, watching and waiting. Even when you know there isn't anything there, the feeling lingers.

This is the kind of game that requires a good imagination to get the feel of the atmosphere and the role-play.

Otherwise, if you're only going to treat this game with a "MUST BEAT IT!" mentality, you'd miss the entire point of the game.

As said above, how scared the game makes you depends on what you are sensitive to. I would say though that Amnesia is well regarded enough to warrant a try IMO, especially since at the time of this posting it's on sale for dirt cheap.

It's one of those games that makes you feel scared through audio, darkness, and the atmosphere. It makes you believe there are monsters around every corner.
