Game crashes when events happen

Hey all,

Recently started Amnesia: The Dark Descent and seem to be having problems every now and again with the game. At certain events (like when the screen blurs or changes colours, be it the character's memories kicking in or other), the game ends up freezing randomly. I'm lucky to play the game for like 10-15 minutes with the way things are going.

Changes are it's a common problem, but I haven't seen the issue I'm having upon checking. Help would be appreciated.

Edit: My specs are - Graphics Card: ADI Radeon HD 4850 Series - CPU: AMD Pheonom(tm) 9750 Quad-Core Processor 2.40 GHz - Operating System: Windows Vista 64-Bit Operating System - RAM: 8GB

I'm having a similar issue. I purchased this game some time ago, whenever it was part of a humble bundle. I played it for maybe an hour or so when I first got the game and had no issues. I decided to give it another go tonight and steam had to update it to make it "more efficient".

The game has crashed twice in the past 5 minutes of playing. First, in the very begining when Daniel is talking to himself fading in and out; it occured during one of the fade outs. Then, I was able to get through the opening sequence and, when I walked through a door it froze up again.

I know my PC is capable of running it, but I'm wondering if there's an issue with ATI graphics cards. My rig is virtually identically with the exception of me running Windows 7 Ultimate.

Maybe your drivers are outdated?

Sorry for the late reply;

I thought it was my drivers, but unsure.... I mean I was at the latest update on it, but just incase, I ended up reinstalling, but it was still happening at first. Not sure if any other program could have caused a driver crash (always had Chrome on when I played the game). After a bit though, I switched back from Chrome to FireFox and just reinstalled the drivers again (just incase), but seems (at the moment) I'm ok now. Played a whole hour and haven't received a crash (since starting the game for like the 10th time since I didn't want to go through the experience of the game, while crashing every 10-15 minutes).

Unsure now if Chrome was a reason or if my drivers was gone weird or something, but I think I'm ok now. Just to be sure, I'll play the game some more when I can and will update with another post in a day or two.

May i ask why you keep Chrome/Firefox opened in background?

You should close anything that is not necessary while playing games.

It's a habit I have on keeping a browser up even while playing games (though Amnesia seems to be the only game where it'd crash while keeping a browser up). D: Livestreaming being 1 of a small number of reasons why I keep it up (reading the chat on Twitch and such). If that actually was the reason, then I'll keep it off in that case. If a problem happens to show up again though (even with a browser off), I'll post again. Hoping though that no problems occur though.
