[L4D2][Linux] Dedicated server connection issue
>>> This is a copy of the bug report from the valve github issues tab
Issue #485 just in case no one from the l4d2 team does not check there <<<

The server starts up fine but connecting to it is a nightmare since you need the ip and port of the server your trying to use, so no pub joins. I have to enter mm_dedicated_force_server ip:port in order to connect to a dedicated server, and I can not leave out the port or it wont connect to my second server, it will never be accessed. sv_search_key and sv_steangroup are useless. Also had to install the dedi on my vps via steamcmd.sh,don't know if that's how its set up on purpose.

hi,
we also got a dedicated up and running.
we downloaded the files using the steamcmd and started the server via hlds. We did not install metamod...just plain beta, but we encounter the same strange behavior.
Neither the server is listing in steamgroup, nor can you start a lobby and pick it up.
You have to connect via console by ip:port

Its ok for now, cause once a player is connected, the server is listed under campaign open games, and everyone can join.

I guess we will have to wait for an update.
lol I installed the full game steamcmd. no just the dedi cause the dedi files are in there.

The beta is using the Steam Pipe content system, so you'll have to use steamcmd.sh to install it. Also, when you launch the server make sure you're setting the game to "left4dead2_beta". If that doesn't help, send me the IP and I'll see if it's showing up on the master server.
how do I send you my ip just put it in here?

Here or email it to kerry@valvesoftware.com. Thanks!
Does left4dead2 beta have its own steam ID or do we just use the one for the beta its self, I ask cause some one told me the beta and the dedi have different steam ID's.
How do you install the dedi servers for mac is there a way?
Do you mean on a server or a desktop enviroment? if you mean desktop then its already in the games folder its srcds_run, if you mean server enviroment then you have to install it via steamcmd. https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/SteamCMD using the steam id 223530
${username_who_owns_l4d2} put in your username ${username_paww} put in your usernames password and everything else except ../l4d2b can bee the same. the l4d2b is just an install folder you can use what ever you want for that.
./steamcmd.sh +login ${username_who_owns_l4d2} ${username_pass} +force_install_dir ../l4d2b +app_update 223530 verify +quit
Same problem here, I have to use `mm_dedicated_force_server' to connect to my dedicated server, it doesn't show up as group server either. Is 223530 the correct AppID? The 11GB download was a little off-putting...
from what Kerry was saying in an email was that the servers are not showing up on the master server list. said he was going to see why that was.
I am on desktop i did not know it was in the game but i still cant connect to it

IP is 66.97.115.11, ports are 27015..27022

When I add it to my favorites, the game shows up as Left 4 Dead 2 (not Left 4 Dead 2 Beta), but the server is definitely a beta server.
Just FYI, the latest update fixed those issues, group servers are showing up...

I just checked, and YES. There are two people on my servers as I write this post. Unfortunately, they're on two different servers, so the whole "multiplayer game" thing didn't occur to them. Oh well, I'll take what I can get.
