Need instructions with installing a sound mod.
So, I've just recently begun playing this game and started modding away (since this game has a butt ton of mods both on steam and off). Now, I've gotten the hang of insalling mods that are VPK files, however I've run into a mod from before the time of Gamemaps. The mod creator didn't make it a VPK file, and instead uploaded it to mediafire as a zip folder, which when extracted contained: a folder containing a number of other folders each containing .WAV files. I can't imagine with something like this it's as simple as the copy/paste method of VPK files, unless I'm overthinking this whole thing. To be more specific, the mod is a sound mod which replaces the Tank's sounds with different sounds.

So, I'm pretty much asking "what do"? What steps do I take to install a mod like this?

Also, I hope I posted this in the right place. If not, I apologize.

Don't bother with sound mods that are wav files only. Message me as I have started making sound mods as of late so I know what I'm doing.

But the one thing you could do is install the L4D 2 authoring tools so you get a VPK packer (which you can use to pack folders into a VPK addon and install it as normal)

Left 4 Dead's sound directories aren't hidden or packaged. They're actually in folders. That means you can actually manually replace the sounds themselves outright. Read more, though.

Way I see it is you have two options. If the sounds are formatted properly, in terms of length, stereo/mono, frequency, .wav or .mp3 format, you could pack them into an addon yourself and activate or disable it at your leisure. Shouldn't be too hard if you know what you're looking for.

The second option is to replace the game default sounds in their proper folders with your mod sounds. Remember to keep or create backups of the default sounds. Depending upon how different they are to the game default sounds, you will probably have to input the command snd_rebuildaudiocache into the developer console to prevent weird errors and secondary sounds.

The disadvantage to this method is that you have to replace your mod sounds with the default and rebuild the audio cache if you get tired of the mod sounds, and if the game updates, those files will be wiped to default.

Be warned, snd_rebuildaudiocache rebuilds the entire sound cache and can take a long while of the game being frozen. Don't use the command unless you've got a book to read or some other thing nearby.
