sound problems
ok so i am trying out modding for the first time, i also tried following instructions but when i test it out, theres static (despite the music being the same length as original, modifying puddle of you) still static, after the snd audio cache and audio update, it just freezes and kicks me to desktop with no errors. I am on the verge of pulling my hair out and giving up

yeah i tried that too, still nada :S
yeah the frequency and the format are the most important being .wav only i believe or just check the sound file your replacing and make sure its the same format

when you rebuild audio caches with snd_rebuildaudiocaches the screen usually freezes and stays on the console till its done and doesnt go back so you end up closing l4d2 then starting it up again

are you putting the sounds into your game files and copy it over the default one? or putting them into a vpk file and running it from the addons directory in your game folder?

yeah its wav. i'm not sure about frequency.

i put sound over game files, rebuilt audio, updated it, nothing. tried the vpk way as well, nothing.
gotcha of the format is right and your installing it into your game files and snd_rebuildaudiocaches then the only thing i can think of is the frequency which is really the most important part besides format

how do i know if frequency is right?
o boy this is where things get a little messy lol making sounds for l4d2 isnt always nice but heres a guide that should help a bit

audacity should tell you the frequency and such or whatever you use for editing sounds, or i wanna say theres a way around it so it will always be set to the frequency but im not positive

unfortunately you cant really just take a sound thats the same length, format, and frequency and put it into the game so it plays, but dont get discouraged cuz im sure youll get there :D

i wish i could help more but im not really a sound modder myself, i usually like to deal more with whats seen

Verify your game files, if that doesn't work you can extract the orginals from pak01_dir.vpk

google it.
yeah just make sure you delete the sound files you put in and then go to L4D2 in your steam library and right click the game and pick properties from the little drop menu

then click the local files tab at the top of the properties window, and verify integrity of game caches button to download any original files the game is missing
