Why add-ons from workshop don't work

The add-ons do NOT work on official Valve servers. You must either play single player or on a non-Valve hosted server from them to appear.

Not all add - ons work on Official Servers. At least that's what i have experienced. For example. The custom crosshair i use works. But the smarter bots ( simple ) does not. I think Valve controls the workshop content as well. I had a add - on that made the flashlight better. About 24 hours later, it was gone. Along with the workshop item itself.

Because 90% of the time when you play best dedicated you get some terrible moded server, and local is a bad idea unless it's a friends only game.

He does have a pint. The upgraded bots mod is kinda cheating, along with other modss like Melee while downed. Still, I wish they would allow weapon reskins, although it would probably impossible to only allow the specific code of the weapons. ;-;

Most official servers have sv_pure set to 1, which means they will default everything to the vanilla version of the game. This is enormously maddening for anyone who plays with mods, and it's the reason I don't play Pinion White Label.

Mods like the Improved Bots and melee while downed will not work on any server that doesn't have them installed itself. Any server that allows mods will disable those any way. See my above comment about server purity as an answer to the weapons problem.

I've got a load of playing time, probably close to 300 hours all on Best Avaliable Dedicated Servers. As an estimate of my 330 games or so played... 2-5 of them were on those "modded servers" you speak of.
90% my ass.

Valve does not mind if you want your gun to look a different way or sound different way, along with charachters etc. This works on official servers. Silverballer etc.
So be patient... start with the simple first: are there any scripts in the .vtf? Any conflicting Mods? l4d2 workshop is new so i have noticed that after i subscribe to a new one it may be finicky on first game run.
Obviously bot behavior mods not going to fly generally.
Look at the populars on the main page, my favorite authors (weapon skin/animations, character skins) have stuff that work flawlessly. Reccomend "Doktor Haus"
Use console comand "sv_pure 0"
Don't forget we have an option to allow or disallow custom server content from main menu options!
