for some reason i cant change the "look up down left right" setings on my pc controler. anyone knows what to do?

Change it to what? L4D2 has full controller support. It must be a wired Xbox 360 contoller though, or it's unlikely to work. There are programs out there that emulate the 360 controller's inputs using another device, but I don't know the names or keep up with them as I just bought a refurb wired controller for $10, problem solved.

its not an x-box 360 controler it is made for pc http://dx.com/p/2-4ghz-wireless-dual-shock-joypad-controller-gamepad-for-pc-3-aaa-44217 but when i use default seting i can only look up and down not left and right

full controller support my arse i've tried disabling the gamepad and enabling and all the game does is set up the controllers in an even worse way. this game used to work with any controller not just the 360 controller back in october. I tried the game out during the free weekend and used my logitech controller. must've been a few updates later cause i've bought it now and the control set up is terrible. If your looking to play this game with "full controller support" pick up something else

Yes, Microsoft being the greedy bastards they are have made the Xbox 360 contoller the universal standard for PC gamepads, even when there are much better out there. I know of a program that will trick a PC into believing a PS3 pad is really a 360 pad, but I don't remember the name. Hit me up if that interests you ask I can ask my friend next time he's online. There are other programs for say, Logitech controllers so you can map the button setup for each game. There are also some others that should work with a wide range of gamepads, but I don't really know anything about them. As for the controller you have, I couldn't even find a manufacturer other than DX Extreme who are also the wholesale website, that controller looks like a steaming pile and could very well be incompatible with many such programs as I've mentioned, and even worse for games. Bite the bullet and get a wired 360 controller or a PS3 pad and the software. The PS3 controller has a better d-pad and 4 times the analog sensitivity of the 360 pad, but the Xbox pad is plug and play, everytime. It's just down to a matter of choice.

Also remember you can get refurbished console controllers cheap from reputable businesses. You might even be able to order from Microcenter.com, though the shipping will be more expensive, but check this out http://www.microcenter.com/product/361578/Black_Xbox_360_Wired_Controller_for_Windows
They don't have refurbs anywhere but the stor locations, but that's the best new price I've found today for a wired 360 pad for windows.
