You have to enable your developers console first in options! Once that is enabled, press the ~ key and the console will appear! Once this appears, simply type "record" (without the "") and when you are done recording...type "stop" (again...without the "")! This can also be used to track a suspected hacker if need be.....to do this simply type "record" "Thathackingidiot" (this being the hackers name) and a recorded file will appear in your steam folder! Hope this helps you :)

By the way.....this form of recording can also be used in other games such as TF2, CSS etc

Could i set the record command through the set launch options menu and if so will it always record a new demo or record over the same one?

To be totally honest with you.....I don`t know if you can set it in the launch options! The method that I`ve mentioned can be either started in the lobby or from in game! And it will make multiple demo`s (not record over each other)! It usually has a date stamp on the demo when its recorded.... but it`s advisable that if you want to keep a certain game that is memorable for some reason, go and rename that file once you finish playing.....that way you can keep track of your demos! Hope this helps you out :D

You would need to use SEADS https://code.google.com/p/seads/ for almost complete automation. There are instructions there that can help. But I find it more useful to record demos by hand, so I can include the map name along with other identifying information right in the demo's name. Then latter on I add the date to the beginning of the file name so I can categorize them chronologically. That's fairly important when you're like me and two years behind in going through L4D2 demos.

The L4D2 code does change, and is going to change more frequently during this L4D2 Beta, so saved demos can become obsolete and unplayable very quickly if you didn't back up old versions of L4D2's file structure. If you don't want to mess with backing up files, just be sure to regularly check through your demos and export clips to .avi or .mp4 before you lose them.

Also, you can record your own mic in demos using "voice_loopback 1" and mute your self using "voice_mute #".

SEADS will work perfectly, thanks for the help.
