L4D2 was free for a day to grab and download it - If you got it, you kept it.
Don't know about the "pack" - Do you mean the Orange Box or something?
In any case, no clue about that.

Yeah, Santa who's sled broke down every five minutes while trying to get his present to all the raging babies shouting bloody murder because they couldn't get it (server breakdowns), or missed it, or demanded recompensation (for a free game, lol), or being annoyed because the free players overran the game servers, or...

It was a mess. Had it's funny moments, though, heh.
