Can I play maps from l4dmaps.com on here?

I seen some cool maps there that aren't on here, can I play those maps on steam with my friends? Thanks!

yes but you cant play l4dmaps in l4d2.

Some of them have compatibility issues, especially with other mods from the Workshop, but theoretically, yes, they'll work. I have a few installed right now.

Yes, maps that you install from l4dmaps can be used on steam, like i've downloaded the Helms Deep Reborn map from there and i can run it fine.

Your friends will also have to download the maps as well to play as well, and then after that you should be able to use them fine.

The biggest problem is finding a server that will host your maps. If you download custom maps then you'll likely be relying on an unofficial and probably modded server. Or you'll be hosting local and lagging everyone else that plays with you.

Yep. Click on the download link you see in the game list, download and place the extracted vpk file in your addons folder.

L4DMAPS is better than Workshop. Less confusing and much faster. Neither of them is more current than the other as It is up to each creator to update either or both. Just for the record, when using L4DMAPS, just copy the VPK file to your ADDONS directory. Do not use the VPK installer.
