Charger cliff "effect". glitch or game-mechanic?
So I HAVE to ask this, because I couldn't find a topic dealing with it already (if there is, please comment a link)

On the Dead Center campaign, first chapter. At one point survivors have to pass along a narrow pave on by the wall of the hotel. This place is ideal for chargers to do their low trick of pushing a survivor down to instantly kill them. But can we please analyze?

Charger effect: Aim at survivors, and execute a straight forward charge, grabbing the first survivor in contact, and then push them to the next wall (or a certain distance), where a severe pummeling begins until the charger is killed. Technically.

Cliff effect: If a survivor is pushed (e.g. by exploding boomer), pulled (by smoker), or accidentally walks over a cliff/ledge, he/she is put in a "hanging" position that requires the help of another survivor to be saved from, like getting knocked down below 0 "standing" health.

Question: Is the fact that survivors can be instantly killed by the method discribed above a glitch where the "charger effect" skips the "cliff effect", or is it intended to give the infected this tool of insta-killing survivors? Because it seems like it foregoes both basic game mechanics described above, and massively unbalances the game in these areas, making versus game a contest/game of luck simply about who can do this (more).

If the infected manage to do this, the 3 survivors will have an immensely more difficult job against 4 infected, and this section is quite early on the map.

Sidenote: Last time I encountered this, I gave voice to my opinion regarding the low ethical value of this maneuver, to which the reply (simplified) was "I have more "hours played" than you, so shut up". He also forewarned more such methods, which I did not hang around to check, so I presume either this is possible at other locations, or there are other methods like this.

So is this really a valid move, or simply a glitch that is very difficult to fox?

I think its just a glitch in the latest possible update. (just my opinion though)
It's called "Karma Charge". This is not a bug. It is supposed to be. It wouldn't be realistic if you get charged out and then suddenly hang there while the Charger goes down. The reason the survivors die is trigger_hurt placed there or, how it would be for real, they die of falling to deep.

What's next, you want tanks to be unable to knock you off the edge?
Hell, we should just put invisible walls by the edges to make sure noone falls off to cater to casuals like OP.
@TeVa Thank you for the answer. While I understand the need for a realistic game, it still seems a bit one sided... Though once I fell down the same ledge as an infected, and died(!) even though I haven't spawned yet. I was running around as a ghost, then suddenly died...

@taie There's nothing next. My question was a simple inquery. A quite civil one, I think. Yet here you are sarcasticing it up. Not nice.

(@Visi If your "comment" is only a quote of the above comment to show your support, then it is simply a waste of time. You added nothing to the conversation, and thus only act as a mindless minion blindly following someone. Keep up the good work)

This entire thread is a waste of time. Only a complete idiot could mistake an obvious game mechanic for a glitch. There aren't a lot of spots to get an insta-kill like that, and if a survivor is careless enough to linger in one, then they deserve to be charged off to their death. It is not any more unbalanced than anything else in the game, so stop complaining just because you lack the sense or skill to avoid chargers, or land an insta-kill as one. I'll happily keep up the good work of schooling fools online, so you needn't worry. :charm:
I felt that the edges on that justified the death.
Schooling fools, yeah, totally. It's impossible to... say, di this to beginners.
"what's that? First time playin soccer? Oh, let me brake your leg for you, that'll help!"

It's not about being able to land it or not. Just because something is possible/allowed doesn't mean it's accepted.

I thank the people who took their time to write decent, argumentative answers, not just a simple "you're an idiot" post. The rest, I hope, meets with someone "nice":Doviculus:
No, its not a glitch at all. Survivors are already better than infected, infected need something going for them.

edit:

Also, theres something called learning through experience. The game doesnt need to hold your hand and explain everything. Cliffs = death.

Once you associate each noise the zombie makes to which type it is, you can predict where there is danger and take according steps.

Their defeat was merely a delay. For the time after video games turned mainstread. When the sons of Doom would spill their own blood. But no one wanted to believe. Believe they even existed. And when the casuals finally dawned, they dawned in fire.

But, there is one they fear. In their tongue, he is Gameplay: SkillBorn!
I lol'd
Indeed, that was a nice Skyrim cover.
I kinds wish the deathcharge was not as common (mostly for no mercy finally - scavenge) as it is. It was really only became a huge problem when the l4d maps were added to l4d2. Most of the original l4d2 maps had very few spots where this was actually possible.

The best way to avoid deathcharging is to not play l4d maps.
