Nope, lag is not that terrible, it often depends. Usually it's totally playable.
now decide if I'm lying or not - I do play with people from the other side of earth :)

Lag is not so much the problem as time people play.

I play L4D2 ocassionally and I'm from Europe too, added :P

Lag can be an issue in higher difficulties, but casually it's fine... there's also extreme lag which breaks the game entirely, that's another story =)
