Playing as Zoey or Rochelle

Hello Steam-type Peoples,

I am currently enrolled in a Video Game Theory class, and this week my assignment was to address Left 4 Dead 2 from a feminist critique viewpoint. I just wanted some opinions/testimonials (there are no right or wrong answers) about why or why not you play as Zoey or Rochelle when you play Left 4 Dead 2. Or you do have a third option: I just play random because I don't care!

Male protagonist formula, letting me be a girl who is also able to survive the apocalypse and be a strong personality in a male-dominated genre of game.
It's also most likely why I play as females in other games when available, because it's something new and shows that they can be just as tough or smart as the guys are.

I dont play Rochelle cause my favorite l4d2 chac is Ellis, I dont play Zoey cause my favorite l4d1 chac is Louis.

The characters don't matter to me. I don't mind playing as Zoey or Rochelle nor do I prefer to play as them. The only reason I would go out of my way to pick Rochelle is to stop vocalization spammers from spamming her awful laugh/cackle track.

Characters don't matter to me either. Although, since I usually get my game on by jumping into already going campaigns and the fact that, most people don't seem to pick the female characters if they have a choice, I end up playing Rochelle or Zoey most of the time as that was the only open slot. It gets boring but I don't hate the character personally.

He understands the struggle. I go for Nick for the exact same reason. To answer the OP: if I had to pick between the two girls, I'd pick Rochelle. She seems more 'realer' to me than Zoey(whose backgrounds is supposedly college student). A lot of Zoey's appeal is mostly in her nerd-background which is a huge turn off for me personality-wise in my video games.

For the most part, I don't usually care. Obviously, if I land myself in a game as the girl, I'll be a little more pleased, but I'm not gonna kick up a fuss if I end up playing as a guy. Besides, when it comes to L4D2 campaigns, I'm more likely to pick Ellis or Nick just because the people I usually play with and I like to use the vocal radials (Z, X, any add-on vocalizers) and to be honest, Rochelle's laugh is about on par with nails on a chalkboard as far as grating sounds go. That said, I do prefer Zoey over Rochelle.

I prefer Zoey over Rochelle, mainly because Rochelle seems underdeveloped and quite frankly extremely fustrating/annoying. Zoey has a better back-story and seems more realistic then Rochelle.

Zoey sucks that why I play Bill because he got something that Zoey doesnt have:
Giant Balls.
Rochelle is the ugliest gaming character of all time and its voice causes earcancer.
Thats why I usually always kill her in ANY gamemode because of the reasons above.

I don't play either of them because, I don't want the only female in the group look like a complete idiot. It's nice to look to your side and there is a female by your side who gets ♥♥♥♥ done!

Everybody hates Rochelle because she is annoying as hell.

But Zoey is fine. She's part of the original 4 and has an agreeable / normal attitude.

But Rochelle? Nobody. And I mean NOBODY says "Son of a Beesting" after being pummeled half to death, set on fire, burnt with acid, gouged, clawed, crushed and stabbed.
