Can't play the game??

I bought this game it's one of my favorites but I can't play it! It loads up but then it takes me out of the game and when I try reopening the window a message pops up saying that Steam must be running inorder to play the game and obviously Steam is running when I start it up. Can someone help me?

The same thing also happens for the first game as well.

Try verifying your game cache, right click on Left 4 dead 2 in your steam library. Then, click properties and then click verify game cache in one of the tabs. If that does not work, try to re-install the game. And if that still does not work you can add me and I'll see if I can help you more.

Im having the same issue! Im running Windows 10 x64 latest update. All other games work except for L4D2 and Insurgency. Both fail to launch except L4D2, I can get it to launch using compatibility troubleshooter but as soon as it gets to the "main menu" it closes and says "Engine Error" "Steam must be running to use game". I have checked game integrity , uninstalled/re-installed and nothing works. PLEASE HELP!!!! VERY P***** Off :(

Actually I figured out that it was a glitch with steam as my other game Bioshock Infinite wouldn't run. So I restarted my computer and now my games work but thanks for the help.
