LOST SPHEAR
Square Enix throwing money into toilet?
Okay, so I don't know how to make the point I'm trying to make unless I use an analogy from another medium.

If I come out with a movie and the movie bombs at the box office and doesn't make a profit, or even recoup the cost of development, a sequel usually doesn't get made.

It doesn't matter how well received it was by the people who actually watched it or by Rotten Tomatoes critics.

If the movie is a financial failure, no sequel is made.

And yet here we have Lost Sphear by Tokyo RPG Factory and Square Enix.

Tokyo RPG Factory made I Am Setsuna, and I Am Setsuna lost about $2 million dollars.

Lost Sphear is not a direct sequel to I Am Setsuna, but it is in the same genre and remarkably similar.

Let me be clear when I say that I don't think I Am Setsuna was a bad game, it was just an economic failure.

I do not see how Square and Tokyo RPG can justify making another one.

Do they just like spending their own money to put games on Steam?

How many time was on sale I am Setsuna for a lost about $2 million dollars? Because I know a new about this when the games just launched on japan market, without taking into account western sales. And I can be sure that PC sales got enough profit for covering porting cost and more.
I Am Setsuna lost indeed about $2 million dollars (244 million yen to be exactly) at the end of the fiscal year on March 2016, but the game was only released at February 18th in Japan. The game was actually released several months later worldwide and on steam.

All I know is SQUARE SOFT was about to declare in bankrupcy when they were releasing the first FINAL FANTASY and that is why they called the game like that, because that was the final release from the company, without knowing that game will rescue the company.

So, from your order of ideas, FINAL FANTASY whould have never been released, and SQUARE SOFT would be dead, never becoming SQUARE ENIX or anything.

Considering that loss was a poor statistic because the game because a Successful Profit when combine its Global Total Sale and it went on to PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita AND Nintendo Switch.
first thing, yes people are right that ii is actually not 2 million in loss because that was just japan market, but it can actually be even more losses, on steam it sold around 55,692 copies(stat by steam spy so it can vary), and this is nothing, and remember it actually cost money to port, then we have nintendo swtch witch sold 4,625 copies first week in japan and remenber that is the bigger market for this niche so with this numbers we can at least assume that the game didn't earn money at all, i loved the game, and i really want to support this one also but the pricing is ridiculous here in brazil
Square will try what it wants to try. Smaller projects will be offest with the success of the bigger ones and the movies they're producing. Games can always be expanded or revised, bad movies are just bad movies.

Yep. I'm glad to see large companies willing to fund titles like this that won't be pushing millions in games sold but still have an audience. It must be incredibly hard deciding on a price point.
For one i'm glad Tokyo RPG Factory is alive and making this game.
I don't know why people have an issue.
As long as it stays away from Denuvo I'm probably going to get this.

I had I Am Setsuna on console, and am considering buying it again here, just so long as the second release doesn't get all Square Enixed into Rise of the Tomb Raider (A game I would have bought in 2015, but instead was just gifted today, all because they never patched out Denuvo and I refuse to pay for a game that causes me to have errors when I play offline) territory.

People look at older many million dollar budget games that go on sale for under $10 then expect brand new games to be sold at such a low price for comparable graphics quality.
I loved I am Setsuna, and I really want to support this game too, to show SE what kind of games I want (and not this crap of FFXV).

BUT NOT AT THAT PRICE.
50$ ? What are they thinking ?
