Game wont launch

When I try to launch the game, it say it will not run in 256 color graphics mode or below. I am running windows 8.1 and can run more graphic intensive games than what can be made with RPG maker, and so clearly my pc is not running in 256 color mode at all. it would only ever be in that mode to play Diablo 2 since there isnt any support for windows 8 for that game. does anyone know how to fix this issue cause I have tried changing the compatability settings for this game and nothing seems to work.
